I am on my 3rd one way bearing on the back of my savage x and it's slipping already. why are my bearings only lasting a VERY short time? I have stock roto start with a 1500mah battery.

you could be getting dust in the bearing and its eating it up or you are getting fuel leakage from your engines cover plate which is making it slip

I have noticed when I change it the shaft is oily. does that mean I have a bad seal back there? would that be an air leak too?

it's usually oily back there when you open it up, just make sure when you install a new one, make sure everything is clean back there. and often check the owb to make sure it's clean. what you can do is clean the shaft, backplate, and clean the owb w/ nitro cleaner. let it dry and see if the owb grabs to the shaft. chances are it's just dirty.

Your fuel has to much oil, Castor oil to be specific.I would switch to a fuel with less oil in it.

why dont you try using some nitro cleaner on them and really get it in there, clean the shaft, and spray the cover plate, nd reassemble and make sure everything is screwed on tight, if yor saying its happening quickly then its prolly just fuel leaking out, its it that bad, you can buy a new shaft and cover palte, sometimes the shafts dont have good machining work

thanks guys. I'm 100% sure it's from the oil back there now. The bearings always seem perfect when I take them out.

I'm using 20% traxxis fuel and I love the way my truck runs on it. If I go to traxxis 25% or 30% does it have less oil or just more nitro? could it also be from running to rich?

alright, I cleaned up everything back there with nitro cleaner and first time I went to use it it was slipping bad again

could the shaft coming out of the motor be worn down enough to make it slip? I can't see any wear on it...two gallons through motor so far.

one time after i cleaned the shaft and owb with nitro cleaner it was slipping, so i put a very light coat of like WD-40 i think on the shaft, it helped, i have had mixed results

i'd seal the backplate with some silicone, or liquid gasket. I used to have this happen, i replaced the one way, cleaned up the back, and sealed the backplate with silicone, and don't rotostart it more than 5 seconds, could be getting real flooded, and leak out back.

Its the traxxas fuel(I thought it might be that just didnt want to say it) switch to something with a marked oil content of around 10-13% oil.

if it's the fuel, why would it slip right away after I cleaned everything up?

any fuel recommendations?

I sincerely doubt the fuel is the problem. Many fuels run >13% oil, most non-racing fuels do in fact (And airplane fuels can be >20%), yet planes aren't falling out of the sky, and trucks aren't stopping left and right. While that could be the problem, my bet is that it's something else.

i am with Chris... the problem is not the fuel but most likely your starting method. If the engine is still tight try preheating the block or loosen the glowplug when starting (retighten once running). Another cause is overpriming or flooding the engine and continuing to crank the engine. I had the same prob. with my savage until it was fully broken in. The good thing is the one way is going to fail before you damage your engine.

Im telling you its your fuel there is simply to much oil and castor in the blend, To understand what Im saying you have to know what and why castor oil is in our fuel for.castor is a gummy natural oil that is very resiliant to heat wich is why fuel companies use it the problem with it is it gums up OWBs like noones buisness, wich is why most companies use a very small amount of it in the fuel 30% castor to a 70% synthetic blend is the most you will see.
Now your saying allmost all fuels have castor in the oil, the diffrence is traxxas fuel is 16% oil(by mass) a large chunk(around 30%) of wich is castor, now HPI fuel is 12 or 13% oil with a 25% castor to 75% synthetic blend.

I used hpi just for a direct comparison but any of the big named brands with a labeled oil content of 13% or less is what I would look for.

I run White Lightning 30% w/8% oil and I had over 4 gallons on my OWB with no slippage..

I am running a Collari 30, it has the one way bearing on the inside of the motor,
I was running rocket science fuel, and the one way started to slip bad, I would clean it, and it would start, but the second time around it would slip.

I put a another bearing in there, and it slipped too,

So I just switched to trinity platinum, and it is working great, with the same bearng that slipped before.

The savage has the bearing on the outside of the back plate, so I can't rule out how much fuel- oil is leaking out, but its harder to get to than the motor with the one way inside the block.

so what fuel do you guys recommend? I tried my friends Odonnell 20% when I was out once and my truck ran like sh#t.

when you switch fuels you need to reset you needles and retune your engine

y es it is definately your fuel, way too much castor, u realized this today when after addind klotz oil to my cars fuel a week or two ago, the shaft wouldnt turn the engine over for the life of it, quick shot of nitro cleaner and poof, like new
