I've got a Novak SS5800 brushless system and I have a problem with it.

After about 2/3 of a battery the thing will shut down forward and reverse (BEC still works) and flash the blue LED at me. After about 1 minute I can run the car again for about 30 seconds before it cuts out again.
If I leave the car over night, I cun run 2/3 of a battery through it again.

What's the problem? Is it overheating? The thing gets very hot but no hotter than any of my brushed ESCs. I don't think I'm geared incorrectly. Running a 20 tooth pinion in a Yokomo MR4-BC buggy.
The cap looks OK but I've ordered a new one just in case.

id send an email to charlie@teamnovak.com or call them ive had a few issues with my gtb and they have been very helpful with me
just tell him your problems maybe send him a pic of your setup and they will sort you out .
from previous experience these systems like to be undergeared and actually work better when they are.
i run a 12 tooth pinion in my schumacher cat3000 it only just gets warm after a 5 minute race, and is fast. strangely when i put a bigger pinion on it just gets slower and hotter
i also use brushed motors and it gets nowhere near as hot as these.
i think its probably overheating,
whats your overall drive ratio? it should be about 11.00 ish
id just try a smaller pinion as they are cheap try a 15-16 tooth,
but as i said before if still no joy get in touch with charlie at novak he will sort you out. hope this helps :) :) :)

you're thermalling... go for a smaller pinion or install a fan...

Flashing blue and red LEDs means the ESC has thermaled. Flashing blue and amber LEDs means the motor has thermaled. Flashing blue and green LEDs means locked rotor.

Check your drivetrain, check the motor, and gear down. That should solve your problem. If it persists, you're probably going to have to send it in to Novak.

Thanks for the replys. I have a range of pinions so I'll throw a 16 in there and see where that gets me.

It's only the ble LED that flashes. Not blue and red, blue and amber etc.
