I have recently acquired an ABC super custom 40m engine. The only problem is that the compression is so hectic my heavy duty starter wont even kick it over! The store i got it from suggested i try unscrewing the glow plug just to get it going! ( i do realise it will loosen up once run in just a case of getting to that stage!!) Does anyone have the carb settings for his motor??
HELP!!!????

I believe all motors come factory preset.

Ok idle setting yes but what would be the suggested high end setting when running this motor for the first time! Any ideas for the compression problem?

Loosen the plug like what you were told for the first runs. Most piston sleeves in nitro engines are tapered so that they expand when they get heated up towards the top.
Not all engines come pre-set from the factory but some are roughly set because they have no idea where they're going to end up at. Your altitude and weather coditions will dictate how it has to be set.
Having no idea what an ABC .40 is unless you're talking about Aluminum, Brass and Chrome and not a brand name. Try the high-speed needle at around 3 to 3-1/2 turns out to see what happens.

Thanks Ron , I am not sure where the ABC comes in but it was listed as a Super Custom 40m by ABC!! OK i was just checking that the loose glow plug theory was legitimate!! OK I have something to go on and will give it a try!!
Thanks for your help!

Don't forget to tighten it back down once the engine is fired so have the wrench handy.
There was an ABC Hobby but I don't think that they're still around as their boats are now being sold by a Chinese company. They mostly had small engines and electric boats. It could be another ABC company which I suspect is another Chinese manufacturer.

Just a guess but I'd bet that you're in the upper midwest. Those rain clouds are spinning like a hurricane right now. The center of it is right over the top of me.

Ok tried that but the fuel just bubbles up through the glow threads and (i think) shorts out the glow plug connection!! didnt fire at all!! could i be flooding the engine somehow. needle is open 3 1/2 turns?

If it's flooded, it will bubble up a lot of fuel around the glow plug but a little will be normal. Make sure that you fuel tank isn't too high making it siphon fuel into the carb.
If you suspect flooding, pinch of the fuel line then crank it over until it clears. You can do this with the ignitor attached.

Ron the tank out is about level with carb, on a test bench!!
Glow plug works and ignitor is charged!!
About to toss engine in bin!!
