I see that Aquacraft has released the gas powered Miss Vegas (formerly to be the E-Lam) and that ProBoat will soon release the Miss E-Lam to follow up on its success with the Bud and Llumar. Can anyone provide me with any pros and cons about whether Aquacraft or ProBoat is "better" in your personal opinion?

THANKS!

aquacraft is actually dedicated to rc boating. proboat is trying to make a buck. there was a lot of politics around the whole elam/vegas thing. not going to get into it because i only heard second hand what happened. i also believe that aquacraft makes a better product over all. aquacraft has been working with some well known racers to develop their products and bring a real boat to the water, just check out the new brushless mono they released, or the top speed tunnel! they are trying very hard to give people what they want. more than just a pretty boat. ok, my 2 cents has been deposited. (before anyone says anything about my bias, i've owned boats from both companies, so there's a little experience speaking here)

Thanks for the insight and viewpoint on Aquacraft vs. ProBoat. I looked at the new Miss Vegas at the local shop (they arrived Monday) and it is impressive. Any idea where the name came from? I thought they might get a deal with Oh Boy Oberto!

Thanks, again.

They basically madeup the name due to some problems with licensing as there's no real Miss Vegas.

from what i've heard, the "miss vegas" will be available in plain gel coat too. giving people the opportunity to decorate as they see fit. also making it easier to put 5 or 6 boats on the water at the same time and be able to tell them apart. try racing 6 miss scuds at the same time...that would be a mess. although my plans here in the near futrue don't include anything from either company, i would side with aquacraft. if i hadn't just purchased a new mono for 6 cells, the new aquacraft FE mono would be a little more tempting.

The decals are separate so you can decorate the boats any way that you wish. There are now shots of all colors on the Aquacraft site.
I've been in contact a lot with the designer of both boats, Jerry Dunlap the past few weeks. The Vegas is a better all-around design and about 7 MPH faster according to him in stock form.
If you want to upgrade it down the road, it would be an ideal boat for the Sport 20 class as Jerry is racing one this weekend with an OS .21 in it and says that it's hitting 50+MPH.
The licensing thing was a nightmare for both companies involved. I won't go into that mess in here but it did have to do with contractual agreements with the Miss Elam team.
I see a 1/8 scale Miss Elam in the future since ProBoat has lost the licensing from Anheuser-Busch (Miss Bud) that was part of the full-sized teams involvement also.
Do I see another RCBM shoot-out in the future? :)
I'm saving my pennies for the Vegas!

You say the Vegas is about 7 MPH faster. Any idea what MPH these two boats run in stock form?

The Bud/LLumar/Elam will run about 26 and the Vegas about 33 MPH out of the box, radared by the person who did work on both boats, Jerry Dunlap. With a little tweaking, the Vegas can get up to 45.
Here's a video to give you an idea, I just downloaded it myself:

I work in a LHS, and have seen the nitro powered Aquacraft Miss Vegas and the Proboat nitro line. Aquacraft has some advantages over Proboat's models.

Aquacraft has foam flotation in the sponsons; radio is on 75 mHz; the tuned pipe runs inside the hull on the left side; the radio box has a rubber seal; and there are two little slide catches at the rear of the cowl/hatch asssembly.

All of the ProBoat nitro hydros I've seen don't have any foam; radio is on 27 mHz; the tuned pipe runs above the radio box; the tuned pipe must be removed each time you want to access the radio box; the radio box is sealed with tape; and there are two thumbscrews that secure the cowl/hatch assembly.

The Aquacraft boat is $20 less than any of the ProBoat models in the shop where I work.

Watch for the coupon deals at Tower Hobbies and the price really gets better.

Cool video. The Vegas looks pretty fast.

What about the Aquacraft Top Speed 2 with, say, the O.S. .21XM....MPH? Any idea?

35 out of the box, up to 45 with some prop work and on the setup on a stock engine.

Any updates on prop selection and setup in the future would be great, this one is on my wish list.

Ron, a 10 mph increase is quite a bit. What are you refering to when you say "setup on a stock engine"?

Using higher percentage nitro, other than the stock prop and taking the time to work with the engine height and angle can make a huge difference over the recommended setup and a box-stock engine. Fine-tuning is the key.

Hi there all.. I am beginner in this new world of RC boating and to me RC boating is truly fun and relaxing.I have choosen to run an RTR type set of Nitro powered RC Hydroplane boat. Can anyone here whom can share with me some opions, reviews and also some pics or images of Miss Vegas U-18 Hydro sport by Aquacraftmodels in action ? This is because I am planning to look forward into buying this boat.I believed and hoped that Miss Vegas would be my choice of very first RTR set Nitro boat.

Wait for thev new version to come out as it will have a lot of the problems with the first one fixed. A new flex cable collet, larger flex cable, kick-back rudder, new turn fin and some other stuff done to it.
