I just bought my son a grasshopper and I was wondering if I'm supposed to add any gear oil or grease to the gear box? I coated the parts with the supplied grease in the kit, but I'm wondering if I'm supposed to add more of something else. After all there is a bolt on piece that says oil on it.

Thanks

general rule of thumb, if the manual says it doesnt need it, then you are safe without it. welcome to the forum, you will find alot of help here. Usually, following the manual is your safest bet.

If it says grease, then get some black grease or high quality lube after you destroy the current stuff. The supplied stuff will last, but it can get beaten down.

Grease is still the best way to lube gears. Various oilsl can be used to make the gears behave differently (important on higher end stuff), but they don't protect like grease does.

Many vehicles come with grease in the gears, and many racers replace it with oil for the action, but no so much for the protection.

The kit should include a tube of moly beam grease, and other lubes.
The kit manual may not be clear on proper application or how much and wear to apply. Oil should only be used on the bushings or bearings 1-2 drops, the grease should be apply very liberally. Apply a dab to each gear during the assembly process, then rotate the outdrive axles so grease gets distributed evenly over gear surfaces. Just use too much or it increases how free the gears rotate, plus excessive greave attracts dirt.
