Greetings, A few opinons if you please.

About to buy a new kit, never had anything but Buggies and on-road cars in the past and I suddenly have a hankering for a truck.

The terrian Im going to use it on will be harsh, Bush, mud, shingle, mostly hills.

My options are a new stock standerd twin detonator or a well used Clod Buster already kitted out with radio gear (no transmitter) , 27T Pro-stock motors and a M-Tronics dual motor and an additionel steering servo modification

The down side of the Clod is as stated well used, The body mounts and front bumper are broken, the body has just had a plain black re-spray.

The question, Which should I buy?, I am looking hard at the Clod but Im wary as I think it may have its best years behind it, Are they bullitproof or do they start to fall apart with age (im pretty sure this one has been run hard), and would it out-shine the Detonator as far as off-road capabilities are concerned?

I have both. They are two totally different trucks. If you just want to kick around the yard, I'd go with a TD...it handles better and is faster out of the box. The Clod needs lots of mods to be really fun in my opinion. Checkout either http://www.clodtalk.com for Clod info, or http://rcdaggerweb.com for Twin Detonator info. Either way you'll get a good truck. I would buy a new Clod over a used since as was said you can get it for $160. If you get a Clod, be careful...if the mod bug hits you it can be spendy.

Hope this helps.

I have never owned a Twin Detonator, but I do have a Clod (old one). Stock, it is kinda fun from a nostalgia point of view; I mean the Clod is a 19-year-old design, and has not really been changed at all, aside from a recent change in parts coloring and the body, but those are very slight changes. Realistically, the Clod is not much fun stock because you have to worry about destroying the $79.95 body ( ), steering is numb, power is slight, and includes a mechanical speed controller. The ride is not damped. However, there are TONS of mods for the stock chassis, and that would make it significantly more fun. Not to mention the plentiful array of chassis available at places like RC4wd.com . Slap a couple 17T motors, a super rooster esc, a chassis, and a set of shocks on the gearboxes, and you have the ultimate crawler around. Or, you can just make it a basher. Truly, there are few cars on the market today that rival the number of options available to the Clod.

On the other hand, the TD is likely a more capable truck out of the box, but aside from motors, an esc, shocks, wheels and tires, and a few ingenious custom mods, there isn't much to be done with it.
