Just recently purchased a Superbrain 959 for use as a 2nd charger, and on its first use I noticed it makes a very high pitched noise, that modulates every second or so. Is this normal? I have pretty sensitive hearing but can hear it over music 3ft away from the charger. It doesn't seem to remeber the settings I tell it either, are they ment to?

Thanks.

Very unimpressed with the charger, after it trying to drive me crazy, it malfunctioned - continued to charge but the screen was displaying everything possible. As a safety precaution I took the battery off it, and even after power-cycling the charger it still won't function correctly :(

It does not remember settings if allowed to stop after the trickle charge or is powered off. Best advise is to power the charger up first and then plug in batt. Pull a max of about 6 amps with the stock ps.

Thanks for clearing that up :)

I tried it again today on only 3 amps charging, and it worked fine. Still making a really high pitched noise so I can't stand to be in the same room as the charger. Not really good for safety.

I'm using it with a 14.4v Pro-Peak power supply btw, surely it shouldn't be overheating on this? No sense in using its built-in power supply as I use the Pro-Peak for my Duratrax ICE right next to it.

I have one and it makes a high pitched noise for the first minute or so. Then it's a quieter noise for the actual bulk of charging. Then to tell that the pack has been peaked, it makes a louder high pitch noise than the first one.

I hear high pitched noises from most electronic devices, including every high current charger I have ever been near. I have very sensitive high frequency hearing - I can hear clearly through almost 21kHz. Apparently, it's just a noise they make, and you have to live with it.

I don't think its defective, on a 3 amp charge it will charge up one of my 3700 packs just fine. The charger overheated on a 4.5 amp charge on the same battery though :( This noise it makes... I'm pretty sensitive to noises from electronics as well, maybe thats why.

Strange, I never heard a noise like this from my ICE, or Novak Millenium. Maybe MRC just use rubbish parts internally.

Strange, I never heard a noise like this from my ICE, or Novak Millenium. Maybe MRC just use rubbish parts internally. They will repair it for 7 bucks or so. Just send a note telling what to trouble is they will fix it. Plus call them and have a chat. I had very good luck with them and there chargers.

7 bucks is nothing, but the problem is international shipping there and back. quite steep for a charger I only paid £10 (around $18) for.

Might give them a ring and see what they say about it anyway.

The 959 charger is an inexpensive charger and has had issues over the years. I have one that is 4 years old and I retired it 2 years ago when I started charging high capacity NiMH battery packs. Mine never made noises but would not properly charge my NiMH 3000Mah battery packs and false peaked on every setting I tried.

It is not meant to save settings and never will you have to use the auto config or change the settings yourself.

It worked ok for my 2000 Mah Nicads and lower then even my 5 cell receiver packs and my single cell glow starter.

Pumping 14.4 volts on the DC side is probably causing the noise this charger is not ment to handle that kind of juice on the DC side. A car battery fully charged will not put out this amount of voltage.

I have an ICE charger and the power supply I use puts out 13.8 volts on the DC output. I retired my 959 because it could not handle the battery packs I wanted to use it for anymore.
