View Full Version : k&b 3.5 throttle cable setup

i am new to outboards and trying to setup a 3.5 on my tunnel. the prob i am having is on turning the throtle cable pulls tight . not sure how to overcome this and any help would be great . . .

you need more slack on the cable. you also need at least two clamps along the length of the cable. i put one inside the radio box, and the second is on the motor itself right before the carb. making sure the tube is held firmly without binding the cable can be tricky sometimes, but it's not hard to figure out. i run my throttle cables on the long side, they actually loop around and come up on the back of the engine. it's just the way i do it. the water fitting on the head makes for a good clamp point too.

mine is the air cooled gold top so might have to look for different bracket spot but sounds like i might be running cable to short. do they have to run around the motor or is that just personal choice ? is cable size a huge factor??

it doesn't have to run around the motor, that's just how i do it. i like to use those smaller cables, they are more flexible. you could make a bracket that comes off of the lugs on the side of the motor to clamp the cable to. that's how mine was originally set up, it works just as well.
