View Full Version : Bad Decision?

I bought a Traxxas Blast as my first boat last weekend and I am so excited. I have not gotten it yet but I have already bought a few things for it. I want to know two things.
1) Did I get way ahead of my self by getting this stuff that is not going to work?
2) Is it hard to install?

I got all this stuff from offshoreelectrics.com.

I wanted a water cooling kit but no one had them in stock but one place and the shipping was way too high. Also I can not figure out what size the Stinger motor is. No one is giving any dimensions for it and it doesn't say if it is a 550 or what, so I can't buy a generic one. I did a little research and found out that the Traxxas Villain IV uses the same motor as my Blast. I bought a water cooling kit for the Villain IV thinking I can use it. My guess is that I can spend the extra $3 to get the double motor cooling kit and just one of the coils and it will work perfectly.

Is it hard to install this thing? I have a Dermal and I am pretty handy with it.

I also got a Nitro Vee 40mm Prop Package with shaft and bullet nut. From what I can gather it should work perfectly as a upgrade to the Blast Shaft and Prop. Offshoreelectrics.com did not have stock on the upgrade for the Blast. Will this work?

Lastly I bought a 6 cell 7.2v 4200 mAh battery. Is this OK. I have read a few things on this board tonight that suggest it will fry something.

Also can I mount the cooling kit water "out put" pointing up in the air so it kinda looks like a rooster tail. I know some of you might think that is stupid or amateur but I think I might like it. Will it cause any problems?

Thanks for all the help guys and sorry for asking so many questions.

Hello again.
Not sure how familiar you are with boats but take easy steps. First run it as stock then move on to the mods and see how each improve.

Yes, the Stinger motor is a 550 & the same as the Villan so you're good there.

That 4200mah pack will give you a good run time being judicious with the throttle.

Water dump: Just run it out the side or out the back. One way is to drill a small hole & fish the hose through it so it maintains a good seal and doesn't crimp the flow.

see ya.

Thanks DoubleDog. Yea you are right about the water dump. The more I think about it the more I think that was a dumb idea to begian with. I think that I am just really really excited about this and I probably do need to take it a little slower. I will run it stock for a bit and the see what needs to be done. There is not a Hobby Shop around for me to go get advice or look at how things are done. The nearest one is about a three hours away. Thanks again.. When I am ready to install the water cooling kit. can anyone suggest a good tutorial web site beside offshoreelectronics.com? I don't want to mess up the hull. Thanks. :)

The bullet prop nuts usually have a habit of coming off. Put a thin slice of water line or fuel tubing between the prop and nut, it will work as a lock washer. They only look cool until they come off and you lose a prop.
Yes, I could recommend other forum sites but I make it a habit of not doing so openly in other forum sites. I work as a Moderator on one and they don't like links to other forum sites so I give the others the same respect.
Put it this way, do a Google or other search using my name and you'll find where I hang out at besides here.
