is there a reason you can not use a park flyer type reciever in a glow model? when installed in the model all of the servos seem to work fine, the only difference i can discern is size. ok guys what am i missing?

i guess i should `ve been more specific....are there any issues with running a standard sized servo from a "micro" or "mini" receiver, the plug ins are the same............ or is it more of a range issue?

Hi,
The receiver does not care what size servos you plug in. This would be determined by the size of the battery pack. It would need ample capacity for the larger servos. You are correct in assuming that it is a range issue- Most of the micro receivers have shortened antennas leading to limited range. Plenty for a park flyer, but probably too short for say, a .40 glow model. There are a few, such as the Berg Microstamp sold by Castle Creations That are both tiny, and have full range.

thanks dave, i was wondering if i could get you to recomend a receiver for an alpha .46 size trainer from hangar 9. i went with futaba servos to match my radio, however i can`t seem to find an appropriate receiver from futaba that i like. i`m powering the receiver( i have a micro in it currently mainly for bench testing) with 5 1.2 batts wired to produce 6 v.and it seems to function great. i would hate to lose my first nitro plane on it`s maiden flight because it went out of range! futaba offers a micro 6 channel that`s pcm but the range is limited, which brings me to my next question is pcm worth the extra investment? as always the help is greatly appriciated,

p.s. been getting plenty of help from my local club guys
in fact i`m no doubt driving them crazy with all my questions :)

Hi,
The Berg Ministamp receiver is one of the few "full range" micro receivers that I have seen. I have one, and would reccomend it for your application. Most of the manufacturers, including the neat gear on 2.4 ghz are careful to state the range is sufficient for a park flyer, but not glow models.
As far as PCM, if you were flying a helicopter or a gas job with a spak ignition, there would be some advantage. For the standard glow powered sport models there does not seem to be any advantage.
