Hey guys, I was out driving around my RC10GT when my radio just randomly cut out, lucky I have a failsafe so no damage was done but the radio wont work! I can't control it in anyway it doesn't respond and the failsafe light is turned on which means that it has a battery flow. I didnt hit anything except going over a few curbs but thats all.

what could be the problem here?

Try checking the batteries in the radio first see if they may be low. then check to see if the wires to the reciever may have come loose or just take it down to the hobby shop they could tell you what happened

check your rx crystal...
I've had that happen several times. No crash, just quits responding. New receiver crystal and away we go.

your receiver crystal in your car. if you have a second set, remove the crystals from your radio, and receiver, and put the others in, making sure you have the correct one in its corresponding location, and try it again

When I've got some concern like this, I take the crystal out and reverse it (turn it around) and re-install it. That way I'm sure the prob is not due to a lack of contact. Then if I still have a prob, I start swapping crystals.

I've also seen rxs get shorted due to dirt getting into the rx itself - goes into the bottom of teh rx where the circuit board usually is and shorts it out-may also be sporadic. Sometimes can be hard to figure out.

How do I acually access the crystal itself? Ive never done this before. I think I know where it is but the top on the crystal seems fairly snug in place, do i have to use quite a bit of force to get it off? or do some models not allow you to remove it

it will have a bit of resistance...harder than the servo and ESC leads going into it.

look there, you will see how it goes in. Or, simply google your receiver, as it should have a good website for whatever radio you run.

I dont deal with failsafes, but if the light is on, doesnt it mean the batteries are low??? If he's using akaline batteries that the problem, those akaline batteries take a bit more amps w/the fail safe. Either way charge up the batteries. Or you went out of range of the radio system. Low batteries would lessin the range.

The crystal is the module on the Transmitter and Receiver that has a color tag on it. On the receiver side it is yellow, green, orange, red or blue. On the transmitter it is
removable on the top of the transmitter.

When replacing crystals make sure you purchase ones that will work with your radio system.

If they work when the batteries are fully charged on the reciever side and the Fail Safe is working properly I would check/replace the Transmitter batteries. Most Fail safes only protect when the receiver side is low and some will detect loss of Transmitter signal.

I have never used a Fail safe because everytime I go out to play I have fully charged battery packs. I got away from Alkaline batteries for all my R/Cs and only use NiMH rechargable batteries these days to save money. Cost more in the front end but saves me bucks in the long run.
