You'll want either 7.2 volts or 8.4 volts. So that's 6 or 7 cells. Ni-mh cells are a little bit better than ni-cd's but are a little more expensive.

What's your budget and what type of performance are you looking for?

for just bashing? Honestly, i use el cheapos... dynamite, tower, ect..cheap packs, they work decent, and if i cycle the wee outta them,...( 3-5 charges a day, heheeheh) and the pack takes a pre-mature crap on me, im out ....what...$10-15 for my playing? i spend that at the McDonalds across the street from my driftin lot in a week, so no biggie.

First off, WELCOME! This is a great place to get info, especially for beginners (don't be offended by the term "noob", lol).

Rollin beat me to the punch....

Your Rustler will take any 6 or 7 cell nicad or nimh. Don't bother with "team" or "matched" packs, as you probably aren't racing and won't notice the difference in performance. People generally agree that the two best cells out there are Intellect (IB) and GP, so I'd stick with these if your budget allows. Many different companies put out packs with these two cell brands.

Speaking of packs, to start off, you'd probably want stick packs, pre-assembled. They nearly always come with a Tamiya-style connector, the same one that is on your Rustler's ESC (unless it's been altered). Later on, consider side-by-side packs. You will have to build them yourself with solder and battery bars (you can get kits with all the parts). They have a better internal resistance (the batteries are more efficient).

4200 packs offer more run time than 3600's or 2200's and so on. What you get depends on your budget.

Like Rollin said, more info from you would help us help you. :)

Which Rustler did you get, new or old?

Edit- Don't forget to get a charger that will charge NiMh packs!

I just remembered, you could pick up a few gp3300 stick packs from radioshack. They're $25 and have tamiya connectors already installed. These are ni-mh cells too.

I can't think of a better deal than that for bashing around. :D

Yeah, I forgot about those...excellent point! Those are GP's, too.

Yeah, those radioshack batteries will do you fine. You just need to slap some powerpole connectors on the cells and you'll be ready to go! :)
