View Full Version : Some of my old work... Should I start painting again?

I used to work at a hobby store about five years ago. On the side I used to airbrush the lexan bodies. My wife and I just moved into a home about a month ago and I came across these pictures on a memory card. What do you think? Should I start airbrushing again or just call it quits? I don't own any RC stuff anymore so I'd basically be doing them just for fun and selling them so I can buy more bodies to airbrush. I'm kinda new to the Altanta, Ga area. How do I sell my bodies through the local stores? Is there a way I can set up an account at a local store to get materials at cost or a discounted price in return for some painted bodies maybe?

Thanks all the paint jobs were hand cut. I wish kept pictures of all the other bodies I did (about 30ish in total). I was interested in setting up with a shop so I'd have a steady place to sell locally. I guess the idea of painting for a shop is an easier route for me. Not to mention I still remember how nice it was to buy bodies and paint at cost.

Kind of a dumb question if you ask me lol. :p It's up to you to decide if you want to paint again. You showed some nice bodies that I'm sure people would buy. It depends if you want to or not.

Yeah I suppose it is pretty silly. I don't think I phrased my thoughts correctly. I'd love to get back into painting. I was wondering if I had the right skill set there to have people buy them after I paint them. :)

Thanks for the support. I have some ideas in a sketchbook I'd like to try out. I'm a little out of the game. I'm still trying to get my equipment and supplies together.

I really like the TA. If you want to paint on the side for extra cash & for fun, I say do it.
You could go to a hobby shop, but keep one thing in mind. The guy at the hobby shop will have you painting Yellow dots, Brown stripes, Green stars and everything else you don't want to paint. Plus it's hard to get them to pay much for your time.
If you sell on ebay you will be able to paint bodies you like and paint them however you want. You will be able try new painting techniques. With the whole world able to look at and buy your bodies you will do better with the extra cash part too.

I would probably go by the ebay route and check out your local clubs to see what there running and how many old boys have the cash to by the top quality work you can produce.

Is E-Bay really the place to go to sell bodies? Where do you guys look to find painted bodies? Online forums like this one? Do you look online for the artist's site? How the heck do you find out about the artist in the first place?
Like what Barry mentioned not everyone has the cash to pay for painted bodies. I like the idea of going out to the local races and LHS because people that are really into the sport will run into it and they'll most likely be the ones that have the money to spend. Am I wrong in thinking that? Do most people really get their bodies from E-Bay?
I really enjoyed selling my stuff in person because you could actually see how the people really enjoyed the work. And it was kinda cool to see your body running around on the track.... Until it crashes.:(
Anyhow, I'm in the process now of creating a website, setting up my work area and research. Most of my paints are all funky now so I'm looking for a place where I can buy at a good price.

Ebay is the place to sell bodies. I started out selling bodies on ebay about 4 years ago. Most of my customers find me on ebay, but I still have a website for showcasing my work. (www.adrcracing.com) My auctions for bodies get over 1000 hits from individual members all around the world and sell for more than I ever thought they would. You will still hear and see how some of the bodies are doing from your customers via email and PICS.
Heres a link to past ebay body auctions, so you can see what's going on.
