I replaced my Novak 6.5 motor with a 3.5R today. I should have never listened to them. Their motors are SLOW, so get the fastest one they make always for bashing (unless you need endurance for racing).

Now my Evader ST Pro went 48.3 MPH. The fastest I got it to go with the Novak 6.5 was 29.3 MPH.

My E-Maxx went 40.3 MPH today with the 4.5HV motor. With the 6.5HV motor the fastest was 29.3. The 6.5HV was a dog and I am not convinced it is any more power than the stock motors (I did not measure it exactly, but I did not notice a difference).

In both cases, the motors were just 100-140 degrees so I can go for a taller gear.

So I am really happy with the 3.5R and 4.5HV with my only complaint being that they need a LiPo cut-off built in.

Something was wrong with your 6.5 in the Evader. You should have at least 35 mph in a stadium truck with the 6.5. My T4 did 37.0 mph geared short and 40.1 mph with tall gearing.

The 6.5 needs to be geared quite a bit higher than the 3.5. The only thing that should prevent you from gearing any brushless motor higher is temperature. Your temperatures are well within the safe range. Above 165 is when you should start to worry.

Sounds like the 4.5HV is a pretty strong motor, nice to hear. What are you using to measure those speeds?

I wonder what a Feigao L/XL on 12 cells tops out at in an Emaxx..would be interesting if the Novak system can match cheap sensorless equipment, in terms of speed anyway.

Apparently Novak pulled out some goodies for this motor (and the 3.5R). The main part that comes to mind are the sintered and nickel plated rotors.

Well perhaps I could have used taller gears to get a higher speed, but I picked my gears so that the temp would not go above 160-170 degrees or so.

I used a GPS to measure the speed.

What kind of batteries were you using rsilvers?

Hyperion 5000 mAh LiPo in the Evader ST and two MaxAmps 8000 mAH LiPos in the E-Maxx. Both are 2S (7.4 volt).

how much run time did you have with your emaxx using the maxxam 8000s?
Thanks, (I am in the market for lipos for my emaxx.)

o.O u musta spend like over 2000 on just batteris and motors...

The HV4.5 is an animal. It will flip over my Revo at any speed. Anything over 1/2 throttle is pretty much out of control. This is running 14.8V with two LiMn packs.

How hot does the motor get?

I haven't hit it with my IR temp gun, but I could touch the heat sink fins without burning myself immediately after running (my low tech equivalent of the Nitro spit test). I'll try and get some real numbers soon.

how much run time did you have with your brushless HV using the Lipo batteries?

I have a Novak HV Pro 6.5 in my Kyosho Inferno GT. It seems pretty fast. I have not clocked it yet, but I know its going well over 30 mph, I think its in the 40+ mph. I am using a 4s NEU 5000mah 25c battery. I have a 11t pinion on there. I dont run this car at the tracks but just around the parking lots bashing around. My temps after like 20-30 minutes of run is only about 110 for the battery, 130 for ESC and 130 for motor. I am assuming I can make it go quite a bit faster with a taller pinion. But I dont know what would be better, taller pinion or a HV Pro 4.5. I want more speed but not at the expense of reliabilty. According to Novak the 4.5 is more for just short high speed burst, not for constant driving reliability.

That's weird, where did you hear this? Are you sure Novak was talking about reliability? I can see how the 6.5 could be better for slower, more consistent driving and long run times but there should be no reliability trade off with the 4.5.

I saw this, and then I called Novak to confirm. They did say that 6.5 is the better overall setup. The 4.5 is not a very reliable setup.

You really can use any higher than a 10 or 11 tooth in a buggy with the HV4.5 and GOOD lipos without encountering overheating issues and that is already pushing 50 mph.
