ok, how is this related?

I have diabetes, and have been been taking the wrong dosage of meds prescribed from my doctor for a while now. Due to the fact, at many times, i run into sight issues, due to extreme levels in blood sugar.
I urge you all, if anyone thinks or has this disease, please make sure you are taking what you should be!!! My doctor had me on 3-5 TIMES the amount i should have been taking.
Before you ask, no he cant be sued or anything, they are protected from that stuff anyway. Besides, i am not one of those sue-happy people.

I lost sight for almost 20 minutes the other day-very scary feeling,( while running the drifter, thankfully, it was near a store, where i got some thing to eat, sat down, and felt better) due to it being dangerously low. This is a horrible thing to have, and i am confident that with the RIGHT meds, i will be feeling like i should.

DONT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!!!!!!!

make sure you keep up on things,

Ron

I have been a diabetic for about 8 years now. I got it right before I moved out on my own (oh great, another thing to worry about). At first I was good with it. Then I succembed to laziness plus the doctor had me on the wrong kind of insulin. Then I had a wake up call when I wrecked my quad and got seriuosly injured. Then I got back in the right track for a couple years and then I succumbed to laziness again. Finally one day I had enough of going to the bathroom like 25 times a day. I went to see a new doctor and he got me on an insulin that I can take with meals and it allows me to eat what I want, when I want. Now I check my sugars at least 5 times a day. This is a horrible disease with no cure and it can really wreak havok on your body. You can have heart failure, blindness, cut off fingers and toes, and then limbs etc etc.....

As far as I know, I am good to go!!!

I too am diabetic.
Lazieness WILL kill or hurt you badly.
Check your blood sugar levels yourself. I check mine twice a day.
You know (or should) what your levels should be. If they are constantly high then it falls to YOU to take action to get them down. Weather that action is seeing your doctor (or 3 different doc's) do what you need to do.
It's your life, if you want to maintain your quality of life as long as possable you have to be proactive.

Well said guys, i check mine 2-3 times a day as well. I am battling both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia ( sugar levels too high, and too low). The scariness lies in the fact that i am sure we have people on this forum with diabetes that DO NOT KNOW the have it.
To those of you "in the know"... doc had me on 3000mg of Metformin a day, 150mg of actose, and of course, diet.
My sugar levels have fluctuated from 460's to high 30's.. Diabetics will know those numbers are dangerous. This is deadly, and i cant emphasise the importance of being sensible when it comes to controlling, and if you think you have the symptoms, GET CHECKED OUT!!!!!!

to those with diabetes...you have my support as well.

I always confuse the 2 types of diabetes. I am the type that has to take insulin. I personally would rather be that type, then the type who has to "watch his diet, and take a pill". I can eat what I want, when I want.

Fortunately, I am not overweight. I am 6' 2" and weight 215 lbs.

If your overweight, things can go from bad to worse in a hurry. If you have to goto the bathroom alot and your mouth is dry, go get checked out. A simple pinprick on your finger with a glocometer(sp) can tell right away if your normal or need attention.

My doc suggest what to take. But I use the sliding scale,I check my sugar then take what I need. And I sorta eat right(like once a week). ;)
For around 8 years I didn't take care of my self for one reason or another, being lazy was 50% of it.Now I'm in a world of sh*t.I'm falling apart faster than they can fix me. :D
So if you have it and don't want to die a painful and to quick of a death(in like 10 yrs ,instead of 30-60),TAKE CARE OF YOUR SELF. :p

PLUS this:
This is deadly, and i cant emphasis the importance of being sensible when it comes to controlling, and if you think you have the symptoms, GET CHECKED OUT!!!!!! http://www.diabetes.org/home.jsp visit here for any questions you may have, or concerns.

Diabetes affects every organ system in the body. It is a leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness, nontraumatic amputations, nerve damage, stroke and heart attack. Diabetes kills one American every three minutes. The life expectancy of people with diabetes averages 15 years less than that of people without the disease. The death rate among infants born to mothers with diabetes is two to three times greater than that of infants born to women without diabetes.
