You can go to distribution aux modeliste, hobbieville, hobby 2000, udisco... there are tons of places. Now, with the names you'll be able to get the phone numbers off canada411.ca

Stay away from Distribution aux Modeliste unless you enjoy being spoken down to and insulted on a regular basis.
Hobby2000 is has good prices but a little too far for my taste. Udisco has evolved and carries much more stuff than they use to 2 years ago. Hobbyville is stocks quite a few items in HPI and other popular brands. My personal choice of LHS's is www.NDHELI.com which has great service with competitive pricing.
As for offroad tracks, I don't know of any. Just pick a construction site or BMX trial with the least amount of traffic possible.
Best of luck to you.

At Distribution aux modélistes in Laval, it really depends if you end up being served by Julie or Serge. Serge is a real purebreed a**hole. Hobbieville is really great, Elan is totaly all about customer service. Udisco is really a freak show, people there couldn't care less about customers and look at everyone comming in with suspicious eyes like your about to commit a hold up. The guys at La Track Racing in Longueuil are great and the people of Hobby 2000 in Chateaugay run pretty close behind. then there is Le Tambourin in Brossard and St-Bruno, not much stock there and what little hangs on the walls is way overpriced.

I would say thats a really great approximation of what you can expect out of the shops in montreal. I've used them all and agree 100% with everything you said !
Theres also a lonely guy in ste-therese but hes a cross between serge at distribution and some others...

I would like to go there and see their stuff....but, like Le Tambourin, I'm afraid that their prices will be too high...
Have you been there in the past ?

I have been to LaTrack and their prices are OK. The lonely guy in Ste-Thérèse is a weird case. I just don't know what to think about this one, I'm kinda sorry for him...
Generaly, I find that hobby shops, compared to other types of retail stores, tend to have the weirdest staff, Serge Lévesque at Distribution aux Modélistes being the undisputed leader of that crowd (by far...).

Yeah, he's quite the price ain't he...
Hobbieville really has good prices and the staff is really really great. Knowledgeable and very helpful. And, contrary to other people they are willing to negociate to keep the business you bring them.

Jag_Imaging: I live 3 minutes from "coin du passe temps" :). I saw their indoor track, and I'd like a RC18R :)
What I am tired of, in the various stores here, is products that are double the US price... a Novak XRS ESC at US$50 is CAD$100, a Piranha digital charger at US$50 is CAD$100, a NiMH battery at US$35 is CAD$70, etc etc etc. It's worst in toys store like Le Tambourin, sometimes the markup is less than 100% in hobby stores, but still, paying CAD$85 for a product that sell US$49 is a ripoff.
And we can not order things in USA either because US stores simply refuse to ship to Canada, or charge ridiculous S&H like $14 to ship a $1.99 bag of clips in a $0.70 envelop. Next time I have to order a lot of things, I may use http://www.freeportforwarding.com/ and ship everything in Champlain, NY and drive here (one hour drive).
BTW Jag_Imaging do you know where is the offroad track in Lachute?

I would like to recommend http://www.coinpassetemps.ca/contact.asp store 450-472-7000, I spent there many hours over the past week with my Monster GT, and I have nothing but good things to say.
They gave me a very personal and kind service, they are very helpful to all, whether you bought your car from them or not. Prices are very fair as well.
For English speakers like me, all of the owners have both French and English as a first language.
They are Team AE distributors and carry many parts in stock, also for Pro-Line and they have STS and Novarossi engines. They have a track for 1:18's at the back as well.
Really easy to get there from the 640.
I have been in all of the hobby shops in our area, this one is most definatly the best, keep it up!

Yeah for nitro offroad they have a lot of stock, but they kind of refuse to sell Traxxas and HPI, and also sell lots of china clones (quality?)
And I'm kinda interested by a RC18R to run on their track during winter :)
Jag and me live a few minutes from them, where are you?

I just got a 18r to race at the track( coin du pass temps) in the spec class this winter..its soo much fun..I really like the hobby shop, super helpfull no matter what car you have. and its not that they refuse to sell traxxas or hpi its just that for now it would cost them too much..One of the owners was telling me that for HPI (I might of miss understood tho) they have to make something like 15 000 order for their distributer to get the stuff and for now they just dont have the demand.
anyway heres my new ride:

Hi everyone!
I'm looking to team up with someone in the montreal area for racing 1/8 gas buggies. I've been involved with the hobby for many years and have raced before(small time local level) in Europe. I'm considering becoming a club member at the Bucherville/Varene track but I need someone to go with. I also don't have a car to go there, but I would pay for gas of course. If you race truggy or anything else that's fine too.
If anyone has any other suggestions, they are welcome!

Hi, Jag.
I'm north of NDG very close to TMR and not far from Decarie. I haven't heard anything about the Lachute track. Is it better than the one in Varene? Do they have 1/8 gas racing there?
thanx for the reply:)

Lachute track is close to the airport, it's a kind of "private" track on a private parcel, you pay like $5 for the day and bash there :)
Almost all the people at lachute track run 1/8 nitro I think.
PS: you can bash at the end of Paré street (behind blue bonnet) at a CP track place too ;-)

Great service and LOTS of stock.
GRCSR.com is also a great place.
Let me also add a bash for Modeliste.
Serge is truly a first class, ****** bag and arse hole...
I know the story why they are still in business but hey...
Happy RC!
BTW, I am in Deux-Montagnes with a couple of 1/10 electric.
We should meet somewhere!

Private track. The membership is 125$ for the season, no additionnal fees to race, practice or else. Just good plain fun with 75 other guys. For now, I can only tell you it's in the near south shore of Montreal, about 20 minutes away from downtown. Our track is 210ft X 110ft of clay and dirt. Table space for 60 racers, holeshot style starts for 10 cars in qualifications, stagered starts for finals. An AMBrc personnal transponder is required to race.
Once you take contact and see the track, you'll understand why we want to keep the spot as low profile as possible to avoid BMX and other nuisances from destroying our work.
Bye now.
