View Full Version : After much deliberation, I'm going to Mamba Max my xxx-t...

Since I need a new motor anyway to get the novak up and running, I might as well sell the GTB and get a mamba max system. GTBs are going for over $100 on ebay, and a new novak motor would be around $75. For a few buck more, I can get a new motor and ESC, lipo cutoff, better programmability, and hopefully no overheating. Also, tower hobbies regularly runs specials where I can get $20 off a $200+ purchase, making this a no brainer.

Now, my question is this. I found the GTB/5.5r a little too fast, when it wasn't overheating. What would some of you recommend for a xxx-t? I'm running an orion 4800 lipo. Also, what gearing would you mamba experts recommend?

Now don't get me wrong, I loved my GTB. I just think I jumped on the brushless bandwagon a bit early. The novak system is nice, but the programming method is a bit tedious, and no lipo cutoff would be a big deal breaker for new converts to the brushless scene.

I think you'll enjoy the Max. Will you be racing or just bashing with it? The 4600 might be a good choice if the 5.5 was too much.

Go for the 4600, gear it for the speed you want once you get it.

The 5600 is prabably a good all around choice, many options for power and gearing. I have the 7700 in a Rustler(not as light as the xxx-T) on 6 SMC IB4200 cells(unmatched) and it has incredible acceleration and 45+mph top speed. My final gear ratio is 13.92:1 (17/87 and 2.72 trans ratio). Oh, and it wheelies on comand :)

Pretty much pavement bashing. I don't have a local track, so I mainly drive it at a local park.

With the Orion pack (serious go-power) I think I agree that the 4600 would be the way to go - especially if the 5.5 was a bit too much speed for you.

Plus - especially with that pack, you can gear it WAY up if you want some more speed down the road.

Sold the GTB tonight on ebay, going to order a mamba system in the next couple of days, if I can find it in stock anywhere, lol.

The 5.5r was definately fun, but really impractical, and it glitched quite a bit. It would just randomly blip the throttle, and range was really bad with it, compared to running a brushed motor on the GTB.

I would recommend the 5700 instead of 4600, u can always gear low for lower speed and get 3s lipo as and when u need insane speed. u can get them at starluckrc, pfmdistribution, b-p-p

hope this helps.

http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/701493.asp. I got mine in three days. Plus I think you get an automatic $10 off anything over $50.

I went ahead and ordered the 5700 from starluckrc, as they were the only one that accepted paypal, and I didn't feel like waiting 4 days for paypal to deposit the sale of the novak to my bank account. Can't wait! I seriously hope this thing runs cooler.

Actually i think the max runs quite hot, but they definately wont thermal so easily. or maybe because all my cars are 4wd and I gear them to the max :D

rca, my MM runs the hottest in my XX4 w/7700... Even hotter than in my 11 pound Jammin CRT.
