hey guys
im getting sick of these darn brushed motors and am looking for somthing easier to maintain.
so im sure brushless will help with that but i dont know what one to get.
i am mostly looking for a brushless that will be matinence free i dont need it to go 80 mph
so if i dont have to buy one thats $300 i would like not to but if its a better idea then a slightly cheaper system and will end up saving me money in the long run i might scrape up the money
i have been looking at the novak ss 5800 or any other novak system really and possibly the mamba max 5700
and by the way this is for a t4
and one more question would it be ok if i were to save a little money and get the ai superbullet speed control (no motor limit) or sould i spend the money and get the system?
thanks in advance! :)

The AI superbullet is a brushed motor ESC. If you are considering a 5800, I suggest buying a GTB ESC and then the 5800 motor separately, as opposed to the 5800 combo. I have the original version of the 5800, and while it has served me quite nicely, it does run REALLY warm, and you also cannot upgarde to a faster motor in the future. Buying those two items separately will probably end up being more expensive though (another alternative that is still novak is the GTB 7.5, which is going to be faster than the 5800, but not ballistically off the wall like a GTB 5.5).
The other option, the mamba 5700, is just simply not as expensive, and has more "wiggle room" in terms of voltage input and what motors it can run (CC is working on a software update that will allow the MM to run ROAR legal motors like the Novaks if you still want a Novak or ROAR legal motor).
My over all advice, if you could care less about racing, I say go mamba. If you do race, the Novak stuff may better suit you (for now.....who knows what CC has up their sleeve). I guess it will come down to preference and price ($212.49 sure is a nice price for a BL system!)

I would encourage you to check out the teamnovak website where you can find answers to many of your brushless questions.
Purchasing a system is usually easier, (at a slightly lower price), than purchasing the components separately. Also, the system is factory-wired to install in your car---plug & play. The systems also contain everything you need for your installation.
A 4300 entry level system is comparable to a 19 turn motor and available for about $170.00. The 5800 system has a mild modified (13-14t) equivalent motor and can sometimes be purchased refurbished from Novak's web store. Novak has just released a 13.5 turn, which is equivalent to a 27 turn brush motor.
In any case you need a brushless speed control for the BL motors---the AI is for brush motors.

ok thanks guys
i was looking for some inout on which ones to research to narrow it down

whats up with the mamba maxx 7700 costing less than the 5700 and 4600!?
what kind of speed are we talking with a mamba max 5700 in a t4 with gp 3300's?
and the same thing with the novak 7.5
thanks guys

I have the GTB 5.5 in my T4 and it is just as fast as I need it be on the local track.
And I have the MM 5700 on 3s in my converted MT2 it is insane for speed.

thanks gtbuser
is the track u race on big or small?

It's 4500 square feet in size. tight and technical, there are a fair amount of turns, so speeds are limited, except on the back straight which is like 60' feet long. and I can pull a wheelie on that if I'm not carefull.

with what motor
which one do u prefer?

I use the T4 onthat track, because the MT2 will out class any thing there as well it's 4wd and we dont have a class for that :( yet..

so which do u guys prefer the mamba max or the novak 6.5
taking into concideration tech support and product quality and anything else worthy to take into concideration

I love My mamba for the speed, and I love the Novak for the ability to use it at the tracks.

The mamba max system is far better IMO. Castle says the update for the roar motors may be out in a month. The mamba system (with 5700 motor) is tunable to any speed you want simply by changing pinion/spur gears. It will give you much more speed without the heat of the novaks.

I also vote for the Mamba Max. I have the Mamba 7700 and a SS5800. The functionality is far superior in every way (except for on/off switch) over the SS5800. I would recommend the 5700 system though as the 7700 is just plain silly. I've got my T4 geared as low as I can get it and it's still a little too fast for the track I run.

At this time I race so I vote for the Novak. It drives somewhat like a brushless and Novak has great support. I would not get a super sport of any type personally. The ss lacks to much. The brakes are weak and there is no drag break. The GTB or LRP Sphere with a 7.5 or 8.5 type motor would be better.
I have the lrp with a 8.5 (5800) and a GTB with a 7.5. I have mixed motors from reedy and novak with no issues. I can say I like both controllers overall. I believe the LRP does not check the motor for thermal so I would
recommend the Novak if that is the case.
If you know how to solder then you can buy them seperate. I have a Used GTB that is just awesome.

Drives somewhat like brushless?
The SuperSport does have adjustable drag brake.
As far as mixing goes, I would talk to Shawn Palmer about maybe getting a Mamba Max ESC and Novak 5800 motor if you want to be ROAR legal. The Mamba Max is a better ESC than the GTB or Sphere. The only concern is that the Max has trouble with Novak and Neo motors from what I've heard, less so with Novak though. That's why I suggest asking Shawn about it. He said they are working on an update for the Novak/LRP stuff.
Of course if you aren't interested in being ROAR legal, just get the 5700kv package from CC.

I have the MM 7700, so it's the best :teacher: . I can't comment on Novak stuff, because I don't have one. But I was amazed by the MM 7700's speed and adjustability. I'll use the voltage cut off as a sort of traction control. It will only pull so many amps from your battery which will take some power away down low but still give you good top speed. Make sure you have good batteries so you can get the most out of the system, at least with the Mamba Max.
Mamba Max 7700: 500watts continuous 1000watts max(motor)
ESC: 1200 watts
Novak 6.5(Kv6400): 340watts (motor)
ESC: 600 watts

The SuperSport does have adjustable drag brake.
The originals do not. The SS+ systems do though.

I find it interesting that what ever anyone has, that that's what he or she recommends. Comparing the ss5800 to the mamba doesn't coun't because it's like comparing an old GM to the latest Ford. The only non biased opinion is GTB USER ERIC's opinion.

you can also run lrp i dunno why no one is mentioning...I run one in my xtm xcellerator and it's quick and the temps are good considering i have bad gearing which i will change soon....and with the comp lrp sphere you can run lipo so you could go 2s on the combo with the 7 turn one and it'll be faster longer...cause the lipo's have great runtime and I've heard that the 6000mah packs are the same size as regular gp's and weigh less as well

LOL! It's true....it's true. I like my Novaks. They've served me well so far (hopefully the SS5800 will continue to serve me after I put a big honkin' heatsink on it too...:D)

Hey Thunder

I just need to order the thermal epoxy really (I think I'm going to go with the alumina as opposed to the arctic silver, just to be on the safe side). I already have an old black CPU heatsink that's about twice the size of the original purple one that comes with the SS ESC, and I've trimmed the orange case so that the larger area heatsink will fit flat on the surface of the PCB. I will certainly get pictures up, possibly in a thread entitled "How to REALLY void your warranty and piss Novak off". :D:D:D
