I have a Robbe BLUE MARINE mono hull (34" X 8") with a 12 volt 25,000 high RPM racing motor in it . I am not exactly sure of the motor as this is what I was told when I bought this set up . This is my first rc boat and would like to improve on the speed side of things to keep up with a 1/12 scale nitro LUMAR hydroplane that a freind has . First of all is it possible ? I was thinking of moving up to brushless motor and esc . There is room for two 7 cell battery packs . It has the outdrive with a universal now . If i was to spend no more than $300 now what would be the best investments to start with and to have to build on later ?

Another idea I had to think about was if I put in a flex drive shaft would it bend enough going to the out drive and get rid of the universal joint ??

methinks that simplifying the drive train would help the most(now and later down the road). I doubt that a flex drive would work well as an out drive. seperating the drive from the steering would be my choice(flex drive & strut, with rudder)

I think what it all boils down to is I will leave this set up alone and look for another boat with the better options like the flex drive and a brushless motor
