My MT2 is just about ready to run, so I though I'd post a few pictures before I take it outside and thrash it. It's currently packing all aluminum GPM components, Mayhem 1/8 shocks, Spektrum DX3 radio, a Mamba Max 4600 brushless system with Mod1 gears, and a pair of 9.9v, 2300mah A123 Lithium batteries.

I'm still waiting for the "Hypersonic Turbo" voltage boost module to arrive, it's backordered at A123. Once it gets here, I plan to run the truck at 14v with the Mamba BEC disabled, and I have a small external BEC to mount that I got from RC-Monster. With the center driveline of the MT2, the saddle pack configuration was the best solution I could find to keep the CG low and the voltage high.

Looks really clean and nice! Can't wait to see how those packs run.

Nice work. I just finished with my Revo and my MT2 is next. :D

Looks good! But I have question - will you be using one Turbo booster thing or two?

TriPower,
Very nice and clean layout,
I know from my own 'BL' MT2 you will need some weight up front, it is going to want to take flight.
I used the 5700 MM in my conversion.
Have fun. because this is going to put one BIG Smile :D on your face, it did on mine

Each pack is 9.9v, and they are wired in parallel, so I only need one Turbo Boost module (A123 confirmed this). I wish I could run the batteries in series, 20v sounds nice, but the Mamba can't take that. I will be able to run anything between 9.9 and 14 volts.

GTB, I have room to move the batteries at least another inch forward if the front is too light. I also have two Mamba motors, one 4600 and one 5700, but the 5700 would be way out of spec with 14 volts.

If this ever gets boring, the next version will have a new motor and controller, and two turbo boost modules in series running at 28 volts!

I've nearly all but eliminated, the front wheel lift off and back flip, by using the chassis lay out shown below. dont take this as an end all but it helped me to stop the lifting I would get under high speeds. I used a Hump pack for the needed weight,
and this also allowed the use of an receiver pack which really speeded up my steering servo.

TriPower and Eric

Do these trucks run circles around the 18ss powered one? I want to do this conversion with the 18ss and it needs to be more powerful than the nitro (I hate nitro). I already have a mamba 7700 in another rig and thought about trying it with 8 cells in the MT2. Think that setup will be similar to yours? Do you have any confirmed speeds or head to head races with nitro to compare? Any tips/info would be appreciated.

my car has run through a timed trap of , for a speed of 57mph. I have run next to some .15 REVOS, and I have more accelaration and more torque than any nitro that I know of. I'm using the MM 5700, on 3s 11.1 Li-Po. Here is the original link showing how I did the conversion. Now you wanted to if it's faster than a nitro, Yes IMO it is...

TriPower, when you get the boost module let us know if you're satisfied with the power it puts out.

If he hasn't tried it yet, I predict he won't be satisfied. I tried it in my TTR ST-1, and the top speed only increased by 5 mph, and the acceleration was worse. This was on the max. boost level, too. A123 has added a disclaimer to their website saying that the boost module is only recommended for brushed motors with a max. cont. current of 20A. :(

Cool, that is faster than the advertised top speed of (I think) 46mph for the 18SS. I guess I will have to see if my MM7700 on 8 cells will do the trick, if not, I will try the 5700 on 3s lipo. Thanks Erik.

My boost module hasn't arrived yet, but I did run it once with a handheld GPS attached. With 15/52 gearing and Mamba 5700 motor, it hit 52 mph with one 3s1p A123 pack on-board. The results were the same with two packs in parallel, but the runtime was much longer. So far, I'm pretty happy with it. This truck runs circles around my Revo 3.3 in every performance catagory, at least until the batteries die...

That's too bad. I wonder if I'd have better results with an SS5800, only boosted to 7.2 or occasionally 8.4 volts.

Hey TriPower,

How is that 3mm chassis? All the holes in the right places? Is it the same width as the stock one? I just started on mine, and thought that that chassis may give me a little more flat real estate for batteries, since the sides don't curve up like stock one. I will have to see when my batteries get here (and my 5700),if I need the space.

No issues at all with the GPM chassis plate at all, everything fit perfectly.

If anybody is interested, I'll be putting this truck on eBay later today (with IB3800 batteries instead of the A123 stuff). It's fun to drive and insanely fast, but I prefer the non-stop action, no charge required nitro truck better. I'm going to sell this and get another nitro.

Wow, that's kinda surprising. You've got once nicely sorted truck there. Wouldn't be simpler to just put the Nitro gear back in? What kind of run times were you getting with the A123 cells?

I bought it as a roller with no nitro parts, so I can't go back. on A123 cells, runtimes are usually around 20 minutes (at 4600mah/10v). Right now, I have it set up with 7600mah of Nicads at 7.4v, so it runs longer than it did with the A123 stuff, but a little slower.

I'm curious to know if you were pleased with the power it put out compared to nitro. If you weren't satisfied with the power, then it might have been better to go with a larger, more powerful motor.

I will sell you all my nitro stuff, I just bought brand new 18ss model

*edit* I see it on ebay now. Wish I hadn't already bought all my stuff, dang.

Power wasn't an issue at all, this MT2 is the fastest truck I've ever driven. I really built it to experience brushless power and to learn a little, but I never intended to keep it long term. I'll have another electric at some point, but I'm ready to part with this one now.
