Firstly it's a TRANSMITTER battery.
Secondly, buy 1600mah to 2600mah rechargable NiMH AAs at Wal-Mart for less and make a pack. Use the old connector (or get an aileron extention) and mini battery bars.

Its not hard to make your own, but the first one will be expensive unless you already have an acceptable soldering iron. Integy used to sell an 8 cell rechargeable pac made from 2300 then later with 2500mah Sanyos, but its not listed anymore. I bought one from a guy in Hong Kong for my 3PK - 2300 Sanyos about 2yrs ago and its proved itself worth every penny (was ~ $30).
Normally, you'd need some kind of mini-bars to connect each cell in the pac, but I'm not sure it would fit in your tx batt compartment if its assembled with bars. Mine wouldn't, compartment is too tight - is assembled with 18ga silicon wire between cells.
Anyway, you'll need some good quality wire, some kind of pre build wiring so you'll have the right connector (servo extension will usually work) and some solder. The last thing is some shrink to cover everything and keep it all from shorting. There have been how-tos on building the full size pacs in these forums, but my searches haven't turned one up.
