is it ok to have the motor and prop on one side of the tub and the battery and rudder on the other?
please help me as i am building a new outrigger and want to know if this will effect performance or handling?

lots of riggers are set up with the motor offset to the right side. the idea is that it helps fight prop walk. i have two in the works that will be like that. many folks, including myself, also prefer to have the rudder on the left side of the transom.

For most outriggers you will want about equal weight on each sponson, not overly balanced toward one or the other. Where you place the components to achieve that distribution depends on the weight and size of the parts. An offset prop thrust like BD spoke of can help to fight prop walk, as can placing the rudder on the left.

Just for grins - what outrigger are you building? If you lack experience builing FE boats, it is usually best to follow the designer's recommendations.
