I just got an 11 turn Speed Gem 2 motor. It really flies, but how can I get better acceleration? Is there a certain gearing I should try?

Lower the ratio by dropping a few pinion teeth. What pinion do you have now?

What Throtl Hapie said.
Add bearings throughout the entire drive train to reduce friction. Buy a higher frequency high end racing ESC. Of course nothing you do will help if you can't get the vehicle to grip the surface you are running on. So buy a real soft compound set of tires designed for the track surface. You could also try to put the car on a diet. Can we know what kind of car/truck it is? It might help us help you. Try different brushes for the motor. Someone on this BB was talking about brushes so try a search for the topic.

Do you have a ball-diff in your car? I think its an option...well anyway, Acer racing makes ball diff balls...69% lighter or something than what is used in most cars. Not to mention stronger. DO you have a ball-diff?

better batteries can do it for you, ones that are matched with a high average voltage will make your car rip, so will a 7 cell battery(Note:make sure that your ESC and charger can both handle a 7-cell, and if you are racing, you cannot use them)
to get more torque w/ less top speed, change the brush springs to a heavier one on the + side, i believe it is(if i am wrong, please correct me)

Sorry, I forgot to mention I have a Traxxas Stampede. Right now I have an Robinson Racing Products 18 tooth pinion. What should I try? What pinion? What spur? I have a good enough battery for what I want, but thanks. I'm not sure about changing brushings.

I meant to say I wasn't sure about changing the brush springs.*

That pinion is probably(well, scratch that, it is) too much for that motor, especially if you are running MT tires, you must have killer top-end, my friend uses a Dynamite 1700 7-cell pack that is great! I think, that would be the ticket, along with a 17 tooth pinion, and an 87 tooth spur(you cannot use smaller spurs with that pinion)
