Okay, I'm relatively new to RC racing and all that. I got a TC4 RTR for Christmas '05 and now I'm trying to get into the racing scene thing. Anyhow, here's my question:
How do I take the shaft out of the car, in order to make it RWD instead of AWD?

First of all, welcome to the forum!
Second, I don't know why you would want to turn your TC4 into a rwd car. It just won't run very good, the chassis is balanced for awd. It will not handle very well at all.
But if you really want to do it, just remove the top half of of one of the front diff case. You will have to remove the shock tower as well. Once you have the diff case split in half you will be able to lift out the drive shaft.
Me recomendation would be to not do this though, I don't think you will be happy with the performance of your car.

Ah. Hadn't thought about the balance thing (d 'oh). Thanks for the reply though. Finally, a forum where people answer questions! lol

I dunno, I haven't been to my local track yet. I'm going to pay a visit down there next saturday and see what's what, but I figure just to know how to do it incase there aren't any AWD classes, so I still get to race, since entry is only $1.

If they are running parking lot races or a carpet track, I would very, very surprised if there are no touring car classes you could enter.

I don't know much about the place. I know it's in a park. I called my local RC club and left a message yesterday, but got no response.
Also, doesn't car class include motor type? I have a 17t double wind modified in my TC4, so what class would that possibly put me in?

That would put you in the mod class.

What kind of other motors are common for the mod class? When I first came into this I expected to see a bunch of crazy 10T and below motors, but from browsing another forum (which didn't answer questions, which is why I came here.. blame google positions lol) I found out about the classes. Is it all 19T's (most common from my browsing, not positive about that)?
And again, thanks for answering my random questions instead of just going "USE THE SEARCH!!". Great forum! :thumbs up:

Actually if it's the 17t motor that came with the TC4 RTR then it's more along the lines of a 19T or 27T motor because it's a very mild 17t motor. Let who ever runs the races and see what they think and they will place you in what ever class they think is necessary. There are several classes though, mod, 19t, and stock (27t motors with 24 of locked timing). It all just depends on where you race on which class is the most popular. Where I race mod is the most popular class but I think in general 19t is the most popular class. Most of the people that race in mod are running brushless systems that are equal to about a 5-9t (5.5-7.5 brushless) brushed motor. Mod TC is usually run with nothing higher then a 12 turn motor but a 7t motor is the norm.

My TC4 came with a 15T, but it shorted out, I bought a "Speed Gears Pro 17T AMBER Modified". Idunno, if nothing else hopefully I'll be able to get some regular laps in just to see how fast the car is. It feels pretty fast, but I can't do many twisties on my street like on a closed track.

You would run in the mod class with that 17t motor. Just show up at your track and enter in the appropriate class. Don't worry about being the fastest or best right now, just get the car on the track and have some fun. You'll only get better and faster by racing, driving in the street will do nothing for your racing skills.

hijacker is right...running on the street is much different for many reasons. Now heres where i get to have fun......:D
( running my yap) :p ....I dont care if you came there with the 1st touring car ever made, or a $4000.00 state-of-the-art, berillium, federation approved, space age, tested by n.a.s.a. car....you are there to have fun!!!!!! If the name on your paycheck is signed "losi", Trinity, or associated electronics"....yup, ya might wanna come loaded for bear..otherwise...man, its about having fun.
You will be shocked at what good driving skills does in comparison to top shelf equipment. Now, of course you have to have something to run, but i have seen all too often, people with the best of everything pile up in the first corner, as the guy with the mediocre stuff( me) swerve his way thru,....and finish in a great spot,,...shoot, even win! If you have a good handle on your driving skills, run some laps, get familiar with the track, and remember, SMOOTH IS FAST!!!!!! If you have to run a different motor, see what everyone else has,...thats a good starting point.
HAVE FUN! thats the key!

Electric onroad is FAR more popular than nitro onroad ;)

Really? I always assumed it was the other way around. Everyone I know is always like "You got an electric car?! Shoulda got nitro"

No, people just think that nitro is faster, so immediately they think it is better. Its all personal preference.

yup, have fun most important thing! maybe later on get a little more serious, last weekend at one of our big races in (nitro MT) on the last lap I broke an axle on my "modded LST" right after I took the lead with only 2 straights to go :( me and a guy with a super maxx are the only 2 MT's to be able to clear the tripple (pick on bottom of this post) and a guy with a savage was in front of me and he has to double-single the tripple and I knew I could get him on the tripple so i cleard the tripple as he was landing the double and then puffff my tire went flying sure i was (explict word) off for a min but then i remberd I do it for fun and congrad. him on his win even though I woulda won lol, so now today in about 3 hrs "our next race" i'll be out for him lol! it's all in good fun though if ur not having fun it better be a JOB!
