Hi , I have not flown a RC plane for 30years or better.I need help my sons are starting to build trainers now and I have some land to make a runway for them but do not know how long or wide to make it. Need help.

Hi,
The short answer is as large as you are willing to make it. Assuming it is mowed grass, a 50' X 300' strip should be adequate for all takeoffs, and most landings. Just as important is having a clear approach path to the runway well beyond the ends of the strip. It would do little good to have a nice long strip, and a fence or row of brush at the end.
Abnother consideration is to align the runway so that the sun will be behind your back during the time of day you are most likely to be flying. This is more important than trying to line the runway up with prevailing winds, only to have to look into the sun while flying.
