ok got a deal on this thing on eBag its almost new but vintage i guess.
Kyosho Nitro Outlaw Rampage
Was a shelf queen engine just broke in and 2 tank fulls run through it.
not even so much as a scratch on it.
I have questions
1.] Is it any good at all?
2.] Will I be able to find any parts?
3.] Whats the most common thing to break on it?
4.] How fast did they go with the OS .15cz on them?
5.] How old is it?
6.] Whats it worth?

I did do a search in the site here but didnt find much.

I thought they were out in the mid 90's, but looking at that fuel tank I would say early 90's (before the flip top tank). The chassis looks like the old "T-bird stock car" with longer A-arms.
OS didn't have a .15 out at the time (well not a small block). Looks like a CZ-R on it, about the only engine out at the time.

the add
Kyosho Nitro Outlaw Rampage Truck. This auction includes the truck as pictured with OS engine and body. The engine is fully broken in and only has a few tanks through it. I have owned a few of these (cz) engines, this one is by far the strongest of them all. It has great compression and starts very easy.

in a responce to me in a question he said .15.............. maybe its an newer motor.......... but look at the pictures not a scratch on it

Does look in great shape.

But OS never made the CZ in a .15 (Well not in the car version) Couple of ways it could be made into a .15
1) get a CZ-M or H and put the "R" head on it. But the M/H rod was very thin and broke very easy.
2) bore the block out to accept the M/H, P/S (I have done this). OS .15 P/S will not fit in .12 blocks.
3) Ofna made a "cheeter" .15 P/S to fit in the .12 block. It had a very thin wall.

He probably just forgot what it was.

I have the same truck as well as the car version.. ZR1 Corvette... they are pretty durable but parts are not easy to find, especially the drive belt... I have the original engine, os11 in the vette but I run a os 18 cvrx in the rampage.. way over powered but pulls incredible wheelies... top speed is limited by the gear ratio to around 30mph max with the os 18 and about 25 with the 11... I have broken very little parts as of yet except the ring gear on the diff.. thankfully, I had a spare.. .. My advice to you... don't beat on the truck or it will be on ebay again as a parts truck.... If you are looking for a daily driver... get something more current that has better parts availability.. Lasty... if thats an os 15cvr.. it must be really old, thats the early 90's style and parts are not available.. P.S.... change the exhaust... that old kyosho can type is very restrictive.. run a tuned pipe out the rear... world of difference..

i also have a HPI Nitro Rush thats my daily runner. What belt? looks to be shaft drive 2wd i dont have it here yet but the pics look like its 2wd rear wd

cenracer1

there is a belt at the end of the driveshaft that connects the shaft to the input of the rear diff... its pretty small but you will see it.. the pics are kind of hard to see but I see it there... look just behind the red pull start and the round cone of the muffler.. its about 1/4 inch x 2 inches....

Ya, i did some reading today too. Got the belt thing figured out. Now where to get spare belts?

cenracer1
10-20-2006, 03:30 PM
I have 4 belts at the moment, none are for sale unless the price is right... remember, I have 2 cars so only a spare for each one... It took me almost 2 years to find them... I will say, the original 15+ year old belts are still going strong... they are much tougher than current belt drive systems... let me know if there is anything you might need, I have alot of spare parts for these cars and can probably help you out..

Steve Pond might be able to dig up parts. Good luck though. I got one on the shelf. Bought it from Tower in 1991n and built it in a week. It is identical to that. Spur gear is worn down. I fired it up last year. Original OS .12 fired up w/ no problem.

Was always a hoot to drive and was the first nitro truck anyone around me ever saw. I built kits, but it was my first nitro kit, and the engine fired in about two pulls. I almost crapped myself, and it gave me my first smell (nostril burn!) of nitro.

waste of time.. I tried them a few times... asked them to delete what they cannot get anymore, but they won't.... They never replied to e-mails so i finally called them... Don't assume your belt is toast and will need to be replaced.. I didn't want to panic you... there are incred strong... If you do break one, I can sell you a spare.. remember.. I run an os 18cvr which is at least 2x stronger than the 15, and have had zero problems.. and I abuse the truck... the corvette is the shelf queen.. rarely ever even touch it..

Do either of you have a manual for this model?

cenracer1
10-20-2006, 07:49 PM
looking at those tires... its seen a good bit of use.... you can replace the wheels with hpi 2.2 wheels... not too crazy about the yellow dish wheels... I run these. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXM872&P=7#tech
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXM876&P=M
as well as these.
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXM974&P=7
they grip well and never seem to wear out... I almost never run this truck off road because the technology is so old and I don't want to break too often.. I have several monsters and buggies for the off road thrills..

Have you tried here?
http://www.rcdocuments.com/index.php?page=1

They might all be newer kits. (I've never downloaded anything from that site)

Some one else had a site posted on here with old Kyosho manuals, have to do some searching.

I have some old dealer catalogs from 97/98/99 that will probably have the parts list, but no exploded views. (pretty sure I've seen the Vette and T-bird in them)

I'll check when I get home tonight from work... I think I may have one... Might be the japanese version, but the pics and numbers work... I never used the manual however.. the truck is very simple to work on... not alot of parts, unlike todays nitros... you'll see.. wait till you see how simple the linkages for throttle/brake and steering are.. just bent control rods ....Airplane style..LOL

found an english manual for the zr1 corvette which I can copy and mail to you if you like... its too large to e-mail and scan.... I looked at the two cars and except for shock towers and wheel and body.. they are 98% the same... its pretty detailed and will probably help you out.. also includes a complete parts breakdown and listing... PM me with your address and I will send it out for you...

ok was this truck any good in its dayNo.
I owned, and tried racing, one of these back when they were in production. It sucked bad. I was able to rig mine up to have some rear toe-in, which helped some, but the gear diff and pogo stick suspension really made it not raceworthy. But I tried. I raced everything. I even raced a Kyosho Maxxum (front wheel drive off road car), a Kyosho Triumph, and a Tamiya DynaStorm.
Trust me, this thing sucked.

...but I did have a ton of fun with it (http://videos.theshreves.com/todd/rampage.wmv) .
