There is " Post Your Boat Pictures Here" under the Racing Nitro/Gas section. So, why not one for Racing Electric. There you go, BoatDoc. You are the first one to show us your hotties.

if you insist!!! how 'bout a pic of what NOT to do to your 6 cell rigger the day before one of the biggest races in the country! after a few quick repairs she was sea worthy and managed to race the next day. when it comes to 'riggers, i'm just trying. they're not my area of expertise, but they are fun!!!!

Thank you and what happened? Is that black tool used for connecting wires? Looks very high quality and compact.

BoatDoc
10-22-2006, 11:02 PM
that's my wire cutter/stipper. we had that out because i was setting up another boat that evening...my H&M viper made it's first run that night before the race the next day, talk about cutting it close (the ESC was delivered to me at the race and there was work to be done)! as far as my rigger...let's just call that a "sudden stoppage incident", involving a bouy

Woops.

FE has many wire connected and those connectors are not fully covered from water, I was wondering why? Are they OK to get wet? NO short circuit?

BoatDoc
10-22-2006, 11:47 PM
trust me...those boats get sealed up tight before hitting the water! water is more of an enemy to FE than gas or nitro. sometimes i think we keep the hockey tape business alive during the off season  the connections are not waterproof, and most of the esc's are only water resistant. some speed controllers aren't waterproof at all...which can lead to expensive mistakes! even with all that fuss, i've found that i have a lot more fun with my FE's than my nitro boats. there's nothing quite like the "whine" of a brushless motor hitting it's peak going down the straight. maybe it's just the additional challenge....

BoatDoc

by the way...if you're interested in FE and you're in Australia, talk to this guy, he'll help you out and get you set up right.

I see. The box for nitro/gas is only to guard Rx batteries and servos from getting wet but, in case of FE, inside of hull has to be compleately sealed tight to protect a motor and an esc from water as well. Right? Thank you.

Now I should **** up and wait other photos to be posted. Please.

here's a pic of the same boat earlier in the year (with different sponsons). this is just to show the hatch that gets taped down to keep it water proof.

so thats what kept you up so late, ouch. here is a pic of one of mine undergoing testing. since then I've changed the turn fin(fuller cf).

BoatDoc
10-23-2006, 07:31 AM
that little electrified of your's really scoots, rex. have you run it with the new turn fin yet? and yeah, fixing that sponson kept me up pretty late that night, and we were also building another rigger for myself and a set of sponsons for another boat. speaking of sponsons...i need to get a new set for that thing! that or i should stop building new tubs, i think i have 4 riggers now

Hello Rex R, I guess total weight is very important to performance of FE. Is it better if a hull is made of CF? Your boat may need a longer turn fin as nothing is touching water other than its prop. It's actually flying.

Rex R
10-23-2006, 12:57 PM
I did actually get a chance to run it (oct 8). was turning much better(helps when the fin doesn't blow out :)). kinda wished I could've gotten a vid of it... that was the run it decided to try being a submarine, had silt 6" back on the bow. fwiw it weighs in at 3 lb.s ready to rock.

Thanks! When I got it, it was in kinda sad shape, it was leaky, had a broken u-joint, no radio, and a few other things, I've fixed all of those and it works great. I'm gonna do a E-maxx motor and ESC conversion with it this winter....

by request....here's a pic of my blizzard X in it's early build stage. the carbon replaced the 1/64 ply skin on the sides. this was done by pressing the doublers down onto a piece of very light glass (1oz? maybe...been a while) with the carbon on the outside. in the end this turned out to be more for looks, as the hull wasn't that much lighter, and probably around the same strength. this is after the bulk of the excess carbon and glass was cut away from the frame pieces.

by the way...i just want to add somethig. running a boat that is mostly black is BAD for other racers! if you flip, you're going to catch some serious grief, because black is hard to see out there. i'll leave him unnamed, but i got quite a talking too earlier this year when i flipped out and was struck by another driver. don't use a color that is too close to the color of the bouy's where you race either!!! rex can tell you why :D

ya get these nasty scars across your deck when you get run over(didn't do his rudder much good either)

rex had to learn the hard way that i have a habit of hitting anything yellow on the water. usually it's bouys, but every now and then...it's his boat

Rex R

looks worse than it actually was. what you see here is after I sanded it down to wood( and smoothed it off) then epoxied over it. the major damage was; at the join between the side & deck(enough to let water in), and cracked the lip of the hatch. the rest was a scratch through 1 ply of the deck. could have painted it up and made it look pretty... decided to leave it as a reminder to me to; a)don't stop in front of boat doc b)let other drivers know that your boat is stopped(and where! a simple 'go wide entry turn 3' might have avoided the whole incident). course the boat is(or rather was the last time I ran it) doing much better now.

Here is a video of the final elimination match race at the HOTMBC season finale last weekend. It is in the 12-cell Sport Hydro class race, the final heat of a ten-round elimination. The real news is...I was racing my LSH boat with a $45 700SC brushed motor against the larger brushless-powered hydros and won!

I had wrecked my BL hydro in an earlier heat and the club allowed me to race my lower-powered LSH boat against the other BL boats - why not, it has no chance of winning. :) I didn't figure to even place in the eliminations - but the bad racing luck of my competitors worked in my favour and allowed me the chance to win. It was a freak occurance and will probably never happen again - but I'll take it. Enjoy the video.

nice one, jay. what kind of times are you running with that boat? i love LSH, i've probably put more effort into that class than any other. i'm unofficially under the 2:10 mark for the 1/8mi course. that doesn't mean that drobie doesn't keep beating me though  every time i think i've got the title in mazo, he beats me up.

I run her mostly stock except for prop (M445, X642, CF48 mod, x440/3, 1343/3), left turn fin added, modd stock rudder, Speedmaster Adjustable Trims, and DX2 Spektrum radio.

i was just at the annual Winter Warm Ups in AZ this past weekend. it was a nice break from this wisconsin chill. one of the guys had 2 SV27's. one was mostly stock and he ran it in P-offshore (12 cell, 4 minutes for those that don't know) and the other had a 700 motor and was set up for LSO (limited spec offshore, 8 laps i believe). he did quite well and was competitive all day.

i see you've already worked on your rudder a bit. if you want to take it a little further, make sure the bottom isn't perfectly flat. make it a "v" shape. this will reduce the rudder's drag. it may only be a marginal improvement...but every bit helps right?

Blackjack52
02-11-2007, 09:22 PM
Thanks Doc. I originally modded the bottom leading edge as a test to try improving cornering when I use a CF48 prop. Rounding that 90deg edge out of the leading edge at the bottom helped dramatically. She doesn't skip as much when cornering when using that monster CF48. The smaller props haven't been affected, so I don't want to take anymore off the "rounded" part.

I "rounded" the bottom of the V off but haven't turned it into a V shape yet. That gives me something to work while waiting for the warmer wx. Thanks for the tip.
