Can someone please explain what the "spectra module' is, for the subject transmitter?
Is it an option and worthwhile?
Thanks!

Hi Ken,
The Spectra module is a device that plugs into the back of your transmitter. The main feature is that it can be set to transmit on all of the legal aircraft frequencies with two rotary dials. I have one, and it is mighty handy to be able to quickly match the transmitter to different models on different channels. I believe it is an option, and for me it is certainly worthwhile.
Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave,
Thanks for info.
Spectra sound handy but 1 more question arises: If you dial in another frequency on the Radio/transmitter do you have to change the receiver on the aircraft or change the crystal so that it works with the new frequency?

Yes you do have to adjust the reciever.

If this is a typical reciever, you would change the crystal. So, if you plan to do this, say to avoid frequency conflict at the field, you would keep 2-5 spare crystals in your flight box so you can change receiver channels to one of those.

If you have a synth receiver, then you just reset the receiver to match the radio on any of the 50 channels.

One note is that the Spectra module uses a lot more power so the battery will run down faster. The standard battery with the radio is 700 MAh, I believe.

If you plan to be out all day for long flying sessions, you will probably want to get a second transmitter battery pack of 1600 MAh or higher. I have 2500 MAh in my radio as I typically hit hte field for 5-8 hours at a time.
