I'm gearing up to build another plane out of balsa (Avonds F-14). I have built an SU-27 Flanker and covered it with Monokote but want to cover the F-14 in fiberglass.

Do I need to sheet the F-14 with balsa (say 1/16" or 1/32") first?

Thanks.

Yes you would have to sheet it first. If you did not it would have the starving horse look. 1/16" should work well. Just remember to glue the sheeting together and sand it before gluing it to the wing ribs.

Thanks. I had also posted this question on another forum and received the same response. I took that information and removed the monokote from my SU-27 and have almost completely glassed the fuse already. The wings will be next. I'm quite pleased with how the glass goes down...at least on the flat surfaces. Curved surfaces require a little more attention but I'm still getting good results. I'll DEFINATELY be using glass for all models from here on out.
