View Full Version : LST 2 as a race truck?
A friend of mine has started selling LST 2's and parts. I am considering getting one and I am wondering if these trucks make good racers. I love my race trucks and I already have a Savage and E-Maxx totally setup for racing. What are the stock servo's like in the LST 2? What are the necessary upgrades if racing? Basically all I can think of doing is a graphite chassis, ti-ni gears, alum shock caps, wing and mount, 23mm hex and lots of tuning.

i have an lst and could be a great racer. you will definately need rpm arms, tini clutch bell gear, i also sealed my fuel tank primer and shrinked wrapped my axles where the pin goes in and connects the cvd. you'll need to install a foward only. the stock servos are great for me but i use 14mm hex with tmaxx tires which are smaller and lighter than stock lst2 type tires. just a few things i did. good luck. pat

Have a look at this:
Project: Race LST (http://rccaraction.com/rc/articles/project_losislt.asp)
Its an LST but exactly like an LST2...

I have an LST2 that I've raced prepped and spent quite a bit of time on the track. I used the "Project Race LST" article as a guideline. I changed out my springs to the black and yellow, added sway bars, did a FOC and put some new treads on it. I also put Losi's heavy duty skids and a wing on it but I wouldn't consider them essential. You shouldn't need to replace the stock A arms, the LST2 arms have handled everything I've been able to throw at them and same goes with the stock gears! I would recommend going through the truck's drivetrain with loctite before you run it for the first time though!
There are two must do's for the race track; a FOC and tires! I shaved nearly 2 pounds of rotating mass off my truck by duing those tow things! and what a difference that makes. I'm still using the stock steering servos and doing just fine, they're pretty capable but a good servo would make life a bit easier.
The one "weak link" on the truck that's almost garunteed to break is the stock Chassis/engine brace. I don't know of anyone that hasn't broken it within the first gallon! I replaced mine with an Integy one at the begining of summer and haven't broken it yet!
I was at the track for practice last weekend and spent more time on the track than anyone there, everyone else kept having problems or breakage issues. I spent about 2.5 out of the 3 hours I was there actually on the track practicing, only stopping long enough to refuel and make minor adjustments! As long as your track races Monsters and Truggies seperate, you will be competitive driving a well set-up and tuned LST2 against any other Monster out there and yes that included the 3.3's!

What is FOC?

FOC is foward only conversion. take out reverse inside the transmission and remove the servo that engages the reverse function. the tranny is lighter internally.

FOC is the way to go beleive me you get more speed not having it also... i always do it if i have a truck with reverse i get rid oif it right away thats my first hop up always
