View Full Version : Bad 1 Way Bearings?

I'm going through 1 way bearings quicker than fuel for my Savage 25. Has anybody experienced the same or found a different source to buy these bearings? I get maybe three runs before the bearing strips and makes it impossible to start. Any feedback would be appreciated.

ur flooding ur engine i would think, but those ones ways aren't exactly one of the most durable. but are they acually cracking? Or slipping? sometimes they slip u know.

because owb has been slipping so much, you need to replace the shaft the owb rides on and the owb at once. I had the same prob as you with my savage.

it could be just slipping and needs some nitro spray to clean it

once you clean them w nitro spray they still slip. I'm tellin ya, the shaft is worn from the slipping. I went through the same exact thing.

Ok, im not too sure what your current set up is but are you using roto start or pull start?
if you are using roto, junk it, they are just plain garbage!
I have had thousands of problems which all just got resolved when i went to pull-start. Pull starts are cheap, and are so much more conveniant if your a basher. roto starts dont give you a feel for the force its putting into the engine so for all you know the engine could be flooded and its still cranking away...you dont want that! also the gears strip after a while and they cost more than the entire roto unit to replace (beleve me they r expensive)! And finally its the constant need to charging roto batts...just made my life hell!

The pull start was perhaps the best investment i ever made for my truck!
(and yes i had the one-way issue aswell which completely resolved after i went to pull starting.

^I'm the exact opposite. I can not stand pull starts. I take them off before my motor ever runs. I use a drill for roto start because you can turn it slow instead of all or nothing like roto starters.

I guess that a fair point, but the hastle of having 2 charge batts constantly for the roto just P*ssed me right off...after the btt was empty (which was allot faster than i thaught) that was the end of your day...at least on a pull starter its allot more conveniant :)
Still, do like the idea of the drill since the adjustable rpm would help!

Buy a new shaft, clean your old one way with denatured alcohol, and use this stuff. It works well on slipping one ways. Regular grease or oil will make it slip worse, where as this stuff grips one way, and slips the other.

It's the shaft. I had the same problem on my savage also.

what are signs of a bad shaft

Demon-TC3

if it isnt smooth or if it is noticably smaller where the bearing is in contact

what are signs of a bad shaft
replacing the owb and it slips again after a few starts.....

you can't really tell much by looking at it. hold on I'll get you a pic of my bad one......

if you look closely you can see a small groove in the shaft

I had the same problem with my LST when it was nitro, new one way and still slipping, put a new shaft in it, it worked.

ya but even my new engine still slips every so often in my LST with a LST2 engine.

ok thanks
does any one know of a starter that does not require a owb that works on svages

have we figured out if you are using a rot start... I am sure that you are. You could also make a 5 cell pack for the roto start. that would have enough juice to get the engine going but not enough to overpower the one way.

hockeyguy
11-13-2006, 05:42 PM
ok thanks how much will that cost

Demon-TC3
11-13-2006, 05:47 PM
Its free, just remove one of the cells from your batt pack! :D

But if i was you i would just shove in a pull-start! It does use a OWB but its allot less strain on it

could go either way. might be ok using the owb from before. if it starts slipping just quit right away and get a new owb. I think your owb with only a few starts on it should be ok.

worked great getting my engine tunned is another problem though. I figure it's just because of the cold weather change and that I have recently change fuel and have not retunned from that. Thanks for the replies
