I'm a little slow on the draw with this one, but still big news--let's see more of that four-wheeler! Press release from www.teamrion.com --Pete

The IFMAR World Championships is the most prestigious title any racer and manufacturer can win. Held every two years, testing is extensive with many practice sessions and warm-up events.

The official warm-up race for the 2007 IFMAR Electric Off-Road World Championships was recently completed in Japan. Racing at the same venue set to play host to the Worlds, one driver established himself as the early favorite.

Driving a prototype 4wd Hot Bodies buggy powered by a Team Orion Revolution Ryan Cavalieri Edition modified motor and V-Max Plus RDS IB 4200 cells, Hayato Matsuzaki claimed the prestigious 4wd class championship with a decisive drive from the TQ position.

Bravo Hayato!

I think this is a shaft-driven buggy because the BJ4 body is a bit narrow for Cyclone's platform. BJ4 body seems fit most buggies in the market.

I'm guessing they went with saddle pack config, so it's either a BJ4WE layout or a belt car, I say.

I'm guessing BJ4 type layout. Using Pro4 parts.

Hot Bodies is going to enter the famously competitive 4WD electric off-road class with this amazing new prototype buggy. In keeping with the tradition of the World Champion Cyclone car and championship-winning Lightning 2 Pro rallycross buggy, Hot Bodies has been designing, developing and testing this new prototype for several months in secret.

http://www.redrc.net/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/hbcycloned4off.jpg

Making its debut at the IFMAR World's Warm-Up Race last year, this new design captured the attention of the off-road racing world when it TQ'd and won at its first major race! Top Japanese racers have been giving the new buggy a workout since then, and we are expecting its imminent release in the coming months!

4WD electric buggy racing has always been a racing class that is seen as the off-road class for the elite, a tough-to-crack category of off-road racing which is difficult to master and features the fastest, best-handling off-road machines available! Hot Bodies is aiming to jump feet-first into this category with a top-level, championship-quality kit that anyone will be able to use.

Just check out this impressive list of standard specifications:
Carbon graphite double deck chassis (2.5mm)
Front and rear carbon graphite shock towers (3.5mm)
Machined aluminium motor mount
Threaded aluminium long-stroke oil-filled shocks
Front and rear ball diffs with carbide diff balls
Optional front one-way will be available
Suspension mounts with a built-in bushing for impact durability
Slipper clutch system
Universal shafts for front, rear and center
Titanium turnbuckles
Custom body and wing
Custom wheels â€" standard wheels can be used
Tires or inner foams not included
Battery trays for 3x3 cells

Keep checking here to see sneak peeks and more details! Hot Bodies is keeping the electric 4WD buggy class alive with this new and exciting top-level racing buggy!

talk about a copy of a bj4
if i was jason i'd be pissed

So, if it had a single pack configuration, it'd still be a copy of the original BJ4, right?

I think the HB car looks nice, will be priced right, but parts will be tough to come by.

the configuration wasn't what I was talking about when i said it was a copy of the BJ4 worlds. Look deeper. Everything is the same:
Shock tower shape and mounting positions
roll center positions
the way the slipper setup is mounted
the steering hub/knuckle design
even the antenna and body mounts are exactly the same

the only thing i see different is the steering rack

hot bodies has a history of ripping other companies designs, look at the lightning buggy line, half of the kyosho 7.5 parts bolt right on.

Another addition to the 4wd class wouldn't be bad, i'm just a fan of seeing someone bring something new to the table, not just completely ripping off a design from an independant company that put a lot of time, effort, and money into making the best car they could. As far as "if it was a stick pack car it would be a copy of the original bj4" Look at the kyosho lazer, still a stick pack car, not a bj4 ripoff. Kyosho at least made their own design.

Who cares, as long as the 4wd market still becomes bigger and better and hopefully it wont be a stupid price like the bj4

Cheers

As advanced as any of the car's we race have become how can anyone expect them to be very much different from one another ? I don't think we will see any major advancements in chassis design for a wile to come. DT36

Good, then it should handle well :)

I hope they (HB) made diff access easier... BJ4's diffs are a pita to get to in a hurry...

there is no electric racing in my entire state.. if it doesn't smoke, stink and make too mcuh noise, they don't race it offroad..

Yeah there really is no electric offroad. One of us wins the lotto we need to build an electric offroad track because I am really starting to miss it. I do have to agree though it looks very much like a BJ4 WE.

Yea it stinks. That is the attitude of just about everyone here " IF IT AIN'T GOT NO INGIN IT AIN'T RACIN!" :roll2: . I race Pro-Truck (LI-PO) here around Charlotte. It's the only way I know of to race electric off-road in NC. They're actually going to let us race at the Farm 2 this year in the East coast nitro series. :)

To get on topic. The hot bodies buggy looks very nice to me. If it has the performance of the BJ4 without the price, I'd be sold. That is, if I could race it around here. If 4wd buggy keep growing, maybe it could catch on in my area. Regardless, I'm glad to see it grow.

does anybody know what the ground clearance is on these type of buggies? How do they run with stadium truck tires?

hopefully they will make a sport version

Would be nice to see a 1/10 scale truggy electric. That way you can handle the torn up tracks from the 1/8 scales, drop a lipo brushless combo in it and get those insanely long runtimes!

They use buggy wheels not truck wheels. The wheels are smaller on buggies. Also the front wheels are a little wider then 2wd buggy fronts. I'm not to sure on how much GC they have but it's more then enough for an off-road track.

come on guys, its totally different then the BJ4, the front shocks mount on the front of the tower, as opposed to the back of the tower like the BJ4, lol, :p

nice guy!and i got to see th e d4 up close.it looks even better in person!i guess a bunch of the european guys are in town warming up for the cactus classic.Hara said it should be released next month.he had what i guess is the production body, which looks really cool, almost has the form before function but still looks really cool.it has like shark gills in the back on both sides, and kind of a bubble round top/middle section.i took a pic with my phone ,but dont know how to get it here!anyways, this thing has gotten my hopes back up for a stadium "truggy"conversion!looks tough.
