I am going to convert an MGT to a dirt drag truck. Any of you more knowledgeable people out there have any suggestions as to what I might do to this truck? I definitely am going to switch to Proline paddle tires and smaller wheels. How about suggestions on gearing for this beast? I want good lowend torque for takeoffs and good top end speed to finish. Would I be better off going to single speed rather than the 2 speed? And I haven't decided on engine yet. I may switch to a smaller engine to get more RPM ).21-.25 size) rather than the .28 that comes in it. Thanks for any help. P.S.----Also will be getting rid of extra weight such as forward only kit too. P.S.S.----Or would another brand or type of truck make a better straightliner? I do already have the MGT though.

well for a dragtruck you want as little rotating mass as possible. you would want the singlespeed because it has less rotating mass, but if you are either running a very long or very short track a 2 speed might be an advantage.

The .28 that's in it is not that great anyway. Go with a higher revving engine (HPI K4.6 HO= 41,000; Axial .28= 36,000 etc...) and put heavier spings on your clutches so it can build RPMs before it actually moves; ala touring cars. POST PICS!! :D

The KYOSHO giga dual force would make a very good drag truck. The truck is fast off the line in stock form...modified would be even better. Whatever you do...POST PICS!

youre oing to want to narrow your tires a bit and use some narrower wheels.

try and get some more of the weight up front to keep it from wheelying, unless you can use a wheelie bar, but it may get hung up in the dirt and slow you down a good bit.

depends what kind of runs youll be doing really. different setups work for different tracks. youll definitely want some narrowed wheels and tires though.

if you run paddles, run the proline paddles, they seem to be the best design for speed, and i guess use them front and back since youre going in a straight line.

there probably are better platforms for a drag race truck, but work with what you have and are familiar with.

I was drag racing my MGT on asphalt and I found that it was way faster geared 18/46..I was running a LRP 28 spec 3..

I would think the Panther paddle tires would work better since they are alot stiffer, and would bite better in dirt. The Pro-Lines are more of a scoop type paddle.

Thanks for the info Broncobill. Where can I get the Panther tires (website address?) and will they fit Proline wheels or do they have there own wheels? Bruce

They are Maxx sized tires. they should fit any Maxx rim.
