New to Nitro

Im fairly new to rc (electric n nirto), right now i have an electric duratrax buggy, ive had alot of problems with the freakin' thing. Im lookin at some nice 1/8 nitro truggies, and i want to start racing in competition. The only problem is i have new clue where or how to start, although i havent visited the local hobby shop (they could probably help). But i live in good ol' indy and i was wonderin if any1 here could give me some tips or advice on how to start racing in clubs and such and mabey if ne of u live in indanapolis too you could let me know how you guys/gals got started and where.
