View Full Version : TNX 5.2R vs. Savage XSS 4.6?
I was pretty set on the Savage XSS 4.6.... but now may be leaning more towards the TNX 5.2R.
What are your guys recommendations? Is the new TNX 5.2R that much better? I know it's faster... but in terms of parts quality and aftermarket hop-up parts availability, is it still better?
Thanks!

I would go with the savage just because the parts r so chep and plus the 3 speed and there is every hop up imagainable u can get for it

I'd say it depends on your local hobby shop. If they stock parts for the TNX, then that's awesome, but if they don't, then you're going to be down for a week every time you break it.
Personally, I'd say the Savage X SS is probably the better truck for a beginner, and a better deal for the money, but I'd still buy the TNX myself.
Alright, I'm 100% set on this TNX 5.2R. :D
What's the horsepower on this? Anyone know?

You can get all the info on the TNX 5.2R here
http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=43530
Oh yeah, I've read that page over and over by now. lol. Was just curious as to a hp rating.... not mentioned on that site.
And a Google search only yielded other sites spewing the exact same info that was listed on Tamiya.
Oh well. My local shop said that they're expecting the 5.2R sometime this week... hopefully.

My TNX Has done every thing my friends Savage and his LST can do and More!! Now he is waiting for the 5.2R so he can buy it.
How come the TNX 5.2R is relatively priced cheaper than the Savages? Cheaper parts?

What u think will be more durable a lst, savage or 5.2R?
ericem... are you asking me? Or just a question in general? I'm hoping the TNX would be just as durable if not more than the others.

All I can tell you is My TNX is three years old with more than 15 gallons of fuel with very little breakage. The stock 3.0 I got about 3.5 gallons of fuel before I replaced it with a big block.
I am on my 2nd Sportwerks .26 engine which I get about 4 gallons of fuel out of it. Just so you no I race and Bash the HELL out of it. The savage seems like it is always down and that is why he got LST. The LST is very awesome truck but he has trans problems quit a bit.

ya those trans on the lst, the only thing i find is, u might think something is wrong, but its usally something simple , like my shifting linkage the servo saver is screwed, or radio settings are messed, but usually i find the low and high gear moves a tiny bit , and it acts neutral sometimes, what i did, was tighten the screw on the top as much as i could before i could no longer lift the dial so i could switch between high and low, but for others or me, i tighten it right down, and never adjust is, and it never moves, overall i think there bullet proof trannies, just those dam high and low gear dials, but with the lst2 no one shouldh ave this problem, and in other cases i find the slipper screw gets stripped REAL easily, or it was not locktited and losens, or it wasnt torqued at all. I have a LST and i love it, but some major things to do IMO, would be dynamite engine brace, and alum diff cases, and titanium gears, and its more then durable, any thing else changed like alum hubs, IMO a waste because i prefer the hub gives, instead of the expensive CVD, and the a arms just leave them too, they are to strong IMO, but i prefer it broke, then twist my chassis, or damage anything else, and they cost barely anything, and the hubs are durable to, they usally never break, just the rear ones, when i wack a tree the axle carrier usually breaks, but not to often.
WOW, i said alot in a TNX thread sorry for hijacking, but just sharing some info :D

Most, if not all manufacturers will dyno thier engines. They can manipulate things so sometimes that number is unrealistic.

is it a Force engine or a Fantom?
the tamiya TG10 MK2 Pro comes with a Fantom FR12 and the TNX has ithe .32 labeled as a FR.32 (although it also has FX on the crank case)
