The ring/pinion, or the inner spider gears? If its the spiders, I had the same problem. The cheap plastic diff cases suck, and have too much slop in them. I bought the nova cups, and they were fine. Also, if you have the older savage, they only have two spider gears, be sure to upgrade to the 4 spider set. If the ring/pinion is going bad, they probably need to be shimmed. It seats the pinion further in so it meshes with the ring gear much better. Buy both new and you can get the idea from this off the mgt, www.savagecentral.com probably has a good write up on this.

Here's a SC how-to on shimming diffs. There are others on the site, this one is with the 4 spyder diffs. There's one for upgrading from 2 to 4.

The alum cases he's showing are by GPM. I ordered mine about a week ago from RCX in Hong Kong. I already have Nova diff cups. I expect this to be the end of any diff probs.

Go to the 4-gear with the nova diff cups, since the plastic cups make the gears haywire .

I got suprised yesterday when postman rang doorbell, needed signature on pkg - was my Sav alum cases by GPM - look nice. That was only 8 days from Hong Kong and not air express shipping.

Ready to shim mine, just need a little time, lol!
