I was thinking about getting an MGT and was wondering if they were very good. I own a Savage X and have spent a lot of money on it so I am comparing it to that. I know that the Savages are very tough and want to know how they compare to the MGT. If anybody owns both then I would sure like it if you responded. My second choice was a HPI MT2 18SS but I am not really sure which I should choose. I would want it to be tough because I like to bash hard. I don't care if it is a racer because I live in the mountains. Also if there any other suggestionsthen I would appreciate it. Oh, and also I don't really like traxxas because I got a T-maxx and it broke a lot so something other than traxxas unless Revo's are any good.

Thanks

The MGT is a great truck, I owned for for a few years. It's certainly wider and has a longer wheel base than the savage, making it more sure footed...if that makes sense for something with tires. As far as durability goes, I'm sure you won't find it a problem. As compared to the savage, it's a tough call, but I'd have to give the savage the edge, but the MGT isn't far behind. It makes a great basher or racer, whichever you'd prefer at the time. The motor is pretty decent. It's not exactly the biggest powerhouse, but it'll get the front wheels up real easy (the .28 that is) and it's really reliable.
The thing I think you'll find best coming from a savage is how incredibly easy it is to work on. It's easily the most cleanly laid out truck I've ever owned. I have a Revo now and being smaller and having all the fancy stuff on there makes it a giant PITA, but still a great truck. I find it doesn't have the typical traxxas problem (everything breaks).

THe mgt is amazing, my cousin has the old one with a .21 it flys and super durable, nothing goes wrong, except when he hit a tree at one wheel, but all he did was brake the front hub 4 bucks later on ebay, i got 3 extras, and isntalled one, there really good trucks.

Thanks for the responses. I just have one more question though. Do the a-arms attach the same way as with the t-maxx with the little pins? Will they bend at all or not because some of the ones on my t-maxx are bent a little and make it more east to break an a-arm. Those pins and the a-arms are the only thing that i'm worried about because it is like the t-maxx and it didn't hold up very well. Thanks.

They do have the same setup as the t-maxx. Almost identical arms. The mgt is a good truck, but is notorious for bending the front hingepins you speak of. There is a guy that amde some great aftermarket ones. The front ones are thonly ones that bend, and it happens over time and hard landings/crashes. I have had the aftermarket ones on there for a while now, no bemdage whatsoever. Here are the brackets, he has his own section in the forum, lol. They are good sellers. This is the only reoccuring issue that I have had.

Thanks for the websites. Are you saying that you have the ones that he made or some from somewhere else? If you got them from somewhere else then could you tell me what website. I just don't want it to break every time I drive it. And I would like it if there are any good motors that anybody would recomend. I was thinking about the surefire .32 but i've heard that it is hard to tune. Thanks for the answers.

I bought them from him, he's a good trustworthy guy. He sent me two prototypes shipped(free) for field testing. They are not a must, but over time you'll need them. The surefire 32has had lots of bearing issues. I have the lrp 28,its a good engine. The sh 28, xtm 28, picco 28, are all good engines too.
