I wonder if NAMBA will adopt this stance on the cells?

11/12/06 LiPo battery decision clarified.

For 2007 Lithium Polymer batteries are not permitted to compete with NiCad or NiMh batteries in electric class racing because the voltages are not equivalent nor do the pack dimensions match those currently observed by ROAR and IFMAR. This rule does not currently affect receiver packs at this time, however ROAR is concerned with the overall safety of these cells when located near or around flammable/combustible materials. ROAR will investigate this further.

Well, they are currently NOT legal for racing in NAMBA. For 07 it will depend entirely on how the voting goes. There is no committee to simply declare them legal or not legal in NAMBA. The FE chairman doesn't posses that power. I suppose the president of NAMBA could issue a directive based on an the recommendation of the chairman but there would have to have some significant reason to deviate from the rule book. It just isn't done. I've never heard of anyone over ruling a vote of the membership. NAMBA is totally member driven.

The upcoming chemistry proposal was written by some FE icons (my opinion) and was/is based on a collection of ideas from many experienced racers. I'm relatively confident that it will pass.

I see. Being new to NAMBA I was unsure how rules where created and implemented. I am glad to see we are not ruled with an iron fist like ROAR or even worse NASCAR!! From what I have learned about the FE icons through research and even speaking with a few is this. Every one seems to understand the affect this will have on our sport monetarily & as far as safety. I am confident now that the proposal will be fare and take all considerations into account.
Thank you for educating me on this matter.

Best regards Mr. Davis
