I would like some input on the Spectrum systems. As some of you may know this will be my first season racing. I currently own an Airtronics MX-3 FM system @ 27mhz. I am almost completely set up with what I have. I just need one more receiver and a few sets of crystals. Question is do I invest further in what I have? Or sell off my stuff for the latest and greatest? I have herd of reception problems in boats? True or false? I take it I will also need 3 receivers. What is the word on these systems?
Thanks guys
Tom

Tom, you aare going to get very mixed reviews on Spektrum and boats. The first system I ever saw went into failsafe all the time but worked perfectly after it was sent to Horizon. I run Spektrum in ALL my boats including GAS and Electric hulls. I have never even had one of mine go into failsafe yet. I have run mine with other boats in three different lakes without a problem. If you are happy with what you have now save your money, its all personal preference if you want to go Spektrum or not.

I agree with Ray - if what you have is working well, then keep it, for now at least. The MX-3 is a great radio, definately not low-end. The biggest advantages to a DSM radio like the Spektrum (which I have) are:
* No need to worry about crystals or frequency conflicts - a big advantage if you race.
* Almost glitch-free - certainly free from model-generated noise.

Thanks guys, I am going to race. I realy want the best system. But with all the other start up costs it may have to wait a season. Or @ least untill mid season. Then again if we get half the snow thats projected it may be sooner.(snow = big over time)
Thanks again,
Tom

I'm running the Nomadio Sensor, works flawlessly! Yeah, the radio is ugly but I can forgive this when I consider that I can monitor motor temp, battery voltage, and RPM's from my radio. I know you've mentioned Spektrum, but I think you were more concerned withe the 2.4ghz technology. From my experience, it seems very solid.
