Tamiya brings back another R/C classic with this Subaru BRAT. Longtime fans will once again experience the nostalgia of their childhood and beginners can enjoy the easy operation of this colorful off-road truck.

About the Subaru BRAT
The Bi-drive Recreational All-terrain Transporter was created by Subaru in the late 1970?s from their earlier 4WD station wagon model for the US market. Powered by a flat-four engine ranging from 1.6 to 1.8 liters in displacement, this pickup had the unique feature of having jump seats welded to the truck bed, which allowed it to be imported as a car instead of a truck. One of the car?s more famous owners was former US President Ronald Reagan, whose red BRAT is restored and displayed at his former residence in California.

About the Model
High-quality 1/10 R/C assembly kit of the Subaru BRAT, one of Tamiya?s early R/C creations.
Same 2WD chassis as used for ITEM# 58354 The Frog, with 4-wheel independent suspension and full ball bearings to handle tough off-road driving.
Comes with two body shells, one made of plastic material similar to the original BRAT for a nostalgic feel and one made from durable polycarbonate material.
Type 540 motor included.
Electronic Speed Control Unit (TEU-101BK) also included.

ELECTRIC KITS REQUIRE:
(unless stated differently above)
Radio: 2-Channel with servo(s)
Battery: 6-cell flat with standard Tamiya connector
Charger: AC/DC timed or peak for 6-cell battery
Paint: PS for Polycarbonate/TS for ABS
Misc. Items: Building and track equipment

All I'm gonna say is, I love Tamiya! They also have a 10th scale F150 (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGA83&P=ML) out also. Based on the "real" stadium trucks.

That looks cool. Full ball bearings, now why can't they do that for the Hi-Lift. :D

A hard plastic AND a poly body? That's excellent!! I love painting and detailing the hard body, but i hate to run it cause it gets all beat up. I usually end up with one ABS for show, and a poly for running - nice to have them both included.

That was my first real rc, and purchased it in 1984. Bringing back memories.

I'm curious as to when they'll be releasing this - I'd like to add it to my Christmas list. I never owned one as a kid, but drooled over the one that a neighbor kid used to drive around all the time (around 1984).

The Brat will be out in March, along with the re-release VW Beetle and RX7

Just released yesterday (but sold out due to only 1000 worldwide) the remake of the first Tamiya R/C, the RSR Porsche 934 but on a TA05 Chassis...

There will also be a "tamtech" version of the Porsche on a modified GB01 chassis (front shocks are laid down) - looks pretty cool. It's on the tamiya america website under the coming soon heading.

That porsche is awesome, there is a SWEET TA05 chassis under there. Lots of aluminum...makes me wonder what that's going to cost.

Ouch! About what I expected...sweet chassis though. Be interesting to see what this brat runs for, there's a nice space open between my Frog and Vanquish.

I love these re-releases, this gives me a chance to go back and collect the ones I wanted so bad that i could not afford as a kid. Could there be an ORIGINAL style Blackfoot coming based off this chassis? Chassis is there, the body is out there (well, almost) ....hmmm...

And to think, I tossed out my OG blackfoot a couple of years ago. It was in bad shape, and I didn't think there would ever be replacement parts

At least I kept the Sees Dime-Holes :D Might have to get one of these re-releases to use them on ;)

I know, i always wanted a tamiya brat, i owned a used tamiya frog that i bought from a yard sale and it was in ok shape as it only ran in reverse the problem was in the old speed control was bashed hard, but hey for $10 dollars what do you want right! but i love the brats and i try to win them on the bay but they fetch really high so as usual i get outbidded unless i get rich and can buy the new in box kits from the eighties that fetch nearly$700 Buy it Now that does not even include the radio or batteries or charger which probably set you back another $200 so end up close to $900+so add shipping cost and you might aswell say goodbye to $1000.00 wow who knew old rc cars would cost sooo much, so i hope tamiya decides to put it within reach for the average buyers?

A Bruiser reissue would be awesome as well! Change the color of the plastic body or something to differentiate it from vintage kits, but please reissue it, Tamiya!! I am sick of the cost of these things on Ebay! Maybe an Avante reissue as well!!

1. HOTSHOT

They do !! They did so at a japanese fair a year or 2 ago and It has resulted in the Frog re-issue ! ! THANKS TAMIYA !

My next choise would be :

1. Hotshot (not Supershot, not Hotshot 2)
2. Avante (not the 2001 version)
3. The Fox
4. Rough Rider, Baja or Super champ
5. Astute or Super astute (just because it was the first car I raced and I loved it)

I agree with the Wild One, but I still have my original 80'ies wild One in mint restored condition. :p

This is great but as long as they dont use those HALF SHAFTS in the back like the first blackfoot had. Those things strip the first time out. I had to get aftermarket dogbone conversion kit for my Blackfoot back in the 80's I remember. That was before they released the 2nd edition blackfoot.

I wish tamiya would reissue the

1. Orginal Brusier
2. Orginal Avante
3. Mitsubishi Pajero

Well to the brat question- yeah it does quite well with some hop ups as those who know the brat is now the same as the frog. and the original brat had some diff items such as smaller motor and fixed drive gears not too mention the heavy ABS body which just made for a slow rc model but the new one is really nice with dog bones and frog type gears for for better steering etc but i have blue aluminum wheel nuts, a 19 turn single orion motor with full bearings lrp esc to handle the faster motor and a crp adjustable motor and pinion plates that you can adjust the size of pinions from 10-28 tooth count as i have a taller gear set than the basic 16-18-19 range mine is the 24 tooth for long tracks and i use a 17 tooth for short tracks, than i have a robinson racing 52t planetary gear for longer life. and all topped off with the much lighter lexan brat body now included. the overall speed gained from the start was around 7-8 mph which may not seem like alot but it really is considering the original from 1983 was around 12-14 mph tops and the new model when i last clocked with my radar topped out around 17.4 and on some passes at 20.1 mph on differnt lots. my brat last posted a 27.2 mph pass with my upgrades than the reissue base brat and no problems with any driveline or stress cracks on chassis so yeah i think you can get alot more but i dont think it will handle much better as far as steering but speed could be enhanced further to an extent-i think a brushless could be great on both ends as far as faster and longer fun time but of-course more ware on tires as the ones on the brat just will ware out and crumble like mine after one weekend mine nearly ripped to shreds i might have to switch to the frog rears and the thin fronts as my fronts barely touch the ground now but are starting to ware unevenly so i can only imagine what a brushless would do as some would say this may be an overkill upgrade but i am rootin and tootin you on as thats what this hobby is all about -so i think a mild brushless unit would be great- i think you may have to modify the body a bit and maybe the right rear arm as the brushless motors are a tad larger but goodluck and i hope this helps..

Look right next to the "M" button on your keyboard. Nope not the comma, one more over to the right. That's right. The period. Try it out. You like it? It's not broken? You can do little things like end sentences and help other people figure out where your thoughts begin and end. Thanks.

Im just kidding, but some people around here do get perturbed with the whole lack of a period thing. I know online people type different to save time, but it really only takes a few more seconds out of your day to put a period at the end of your sentence.

:teacher:

Tomorrow class, we'll learn about exclamation points!

All the hop-ups i purchased were purchased off the bay and are still available. I think most of the items I purchased were the buy it now items which is great, as i did not have to wait for an auction to end to win. Some of the parts I used were specifically for The FROG. The hop-ups I used were: Tamiya, CRP, PARMA, Team Orion, LRP, Robinson Racing, and Duratraxx for their metal type ball bearings. I spent about $160 on the hop-ups. In my oppinion these radio control vehicles are great regardless the location for play. I dont think you can go wrong with a Re-issue Tamiya Subaru Brat or Tamiya Frog, especially one that has performance enhancements. These radio control buggies are just great fun!

In responce to a previous members note that had nothing to say about the original subject matter- I hope i did not cause any interval confusion for my replies on a tamiya subaru brat re-issue forum. I had no idea i was in a fourth grade english forum. To all members in this forum please excuse me for the lack of punctuation nor PERIOD insertion from time to time, my whole objective is to supply what i found to be great add-ons for an already great buggy. my deepest apologies... Lord knows, we dont want to make any one PERTURBED! lol... To those who criticize others on school taught skills please make sure your offensive replies are grade A, otherwise you could look silly not inserting necessary words to complete a sentence, for example - you like it - wheres the much needed word to make it correct, such as (will) - you will like it - as some members may find this offensive; so please take a second and read over your replies before submitting them in an offensive matter to another member in regards to their grammatical skills. And be sure to note: the comma is beside the key stroke M on the key board, the PERIOD is not.. lol...

hey m...let me ask you a quick question......what makes you put all the money into the tamiya, when you could by pretty much buy any car to play, for that price,,,,

why not an x ray mt 18,or a wheely king,or even a traxxas brushless buggy........

or is the subie so cool looking, its just neat to have......

You know the funny thing is, Mabushi can't read either! Let me quote myself on this one:

Let's see...messed up South Carolina keyboard... CHECK

Now, moving on to the missing words...

If you actually looked up Assumed Words in your nonexistent grammar handbook, you will see the word "Do" in there as an assumed word for questions. So, since I used a QUESTION MARK, I was asking a question, as in "Do you like it?" not making a statement as you suggested.

Finally, I want to quote the MOST IMPORTANT part of this whole ordeal-
Originally posted by masterchief06

The point is, using a period may clarify the point you are trying to make. It was a harmless suggestion I was making, and your half-whitted response to my suggestion demonstrates your own lack of knowledge in the matter. Notice the light attitude with my original post? It was meant as a nonchalant recommendation to improve your contributing power on these forums (with your NUMEROUS post count at 59:roll2:), but since you're going to clown on me, expect it back.

I think that you could buy an xray if you like, as they do make some great stuff, i myself own an Xray T2 and is one of the best touring cars money can buy. I like to think of it as the Ferrari of of the touring class, as the fit and finish is perfect, i just leave the body off this one when displayed! The downside to Xray rc vehicles is they are expensive to begin with, and the parts availability is tough to aquire, as i know from experience. So you could buy one of these, as i myself would like to buy the Xray NT 18T. Kinda downside-pricey and parts are tough to get and did i mention pricey?
The Hpi wheely king is another good choice. This model comes ready to run, although i would buy the 4wd model, its a tad more money but worth it for crawling alone (sidewalks). I own the original 2wd. The downside to this model is thats its all plastic. The speed on these are slow, expect even slower if you opt for the 4wd. And theres the wheely bar- kinda cheesy' but does the job ok.. These trucks are meant to bash and have fun playing, not worry about...Fun truck, cheap price, ready to run, and easy parts to get, but very slow, kinda boring style, the fit and finish is a tad low ball..

The traxxas buggy, as i am guessing you are speaking of the Bandit? I am glad you brought this up-as i owned a rustler. This was just crap. I've put more money in this thing than i put in my vintage bruiser- The original traxxas esc that came with started to melt in just 10 minutes of play, the gears always made a grinding noise from day 1, and the stinger motor would only work when it wanted. Then theres the sad looking remote (still).but it was cheap, and it ran really quick (sometimes). I never owned a Bandit model as it looked god aweful! My brother owned a hobby shop a few years back and no one bought the Bandit buggies. so i can not comment on its performance. Just a buggy i could care less to own. I am not going to bash traxxas on their latest fleet of ready to runs as i own a traxxas Revo etc., but their older cars and trucks just were not worthy to own. Traxxas has re-invented themselves since and are serious competitors for play or at the track, and some even have the bling! Good stuff out now, price is average, parts are everywhere, crazy fast cars - electric and nitro. downside is not much, but chances are your neighbor has a traxxas truck, so originality is pretty much gone. The hop-ups to these are very additctive trust me, I think i spent around $1200 in my Revo alone not to mention my original t-maxx which is all aluminized with an RB .15 racing engine (hard to find now) but i would estimate $2400 on this one now it just sits..but that was the craze. The Revo is my racer at the track, so money well spent!

Some other honorable mentions are: Ofna, Team associated, losi, kyosho, and even some Duratraxx buggies do very well at our local dirt track!
I like Tamiya because it was the first rc cars i owned as I still have my original Tamiyia sand scorcher which i think my dad bought while in Germany in 1983.. So yeah i think your right fastharry, the subie looks cool, but it's an iconic model that just gets so much attention from everyone. There is so many people that can remember when they were a kid and how neat these looked, but maybe could not buy one at the time ( I was one of those kids). The original tamiya subaru brat even had star power, I think the brat had a small role in a movie; i think was called "The Manhattan Project", or "War Games"? I get these two confused. Other than just being an icon of rc cars, the tamiya brat or re-issue holds a special place in my heart, so money invested in something meaningful, regardless the brand, is just a no-brainer (no offense to masterchief06).he.he..hee...

Now to masterchief06 lovely comments,
you do not have to explain yourself on what you meant by whatever you said, as it has nothing to do with the original subject, trust me-no one cares. If you are looking to criticize others about grammar or punctuation use, than maybe you should go to another board? How's about the Board of eduation which seems to me what you enjoy, this is a good thing. But try to learn how to stick to the subject matter at hand and how to treat others with kindness and respect, this my friend is a home taught skill, as you never know you may learn something of value..I am not here on this forum to call you a clown, heck' i was a volunteer clown at our local fire fighters convention charity grounds, it was alot of fun! we raised alot of money for the towns historic parks. Just note this: Be cautious how you come across someone when you are trying to critisize them, regardless the occasion. Some may attest this as offensive to their being.. perhaps you did not notice but my member name is not mabushi, but mabushi540. and a period is not used to clarify a specific point, but simply end a sentence. Please masterchief dont leave the forum stay and learn about our ever growing sport of rc.. I have to admit' you are alot of fun to have around as every school has to have a bully, regardless your anger issues and yeah your right, pardon me on not really taking the time on reading your non-subject matter about how or what i should wright. as you did say the period is couple of spaces to the right. So i guess South Carolina keyboard are tad different than the Jersey kind..lol...What i like to do when i get angry or stressed out-is grab one of my rc cars, usually ( My older traxxas rustler) is the candidate and run in all kinds of stuff outside. Trust me masterchief, it works-thats if you have any rc models to speak of? I suggest a well used 90's Traxxas bandit should suit you just fine..he..he..hee...

Talk about a patriotic paint scheme. If I had not painted mine already, this would have been my next pick. But I think I might have took it one step further and added some big round numbers on the doors for that ever popular racing look...
But now that i think about it, I may have passed on the whole paint scheme all together, as "my name is not Earl".....lol.
Cool picture CarterTG.
