After talking with good buddy Pat Tritle about the movie Flyboys we came up with the idea of a nice easy to build electric Nieuport 17. This is what Pat designed!
It stacks up like this;
Span- 40" (top) 37.6" (bot)
Area- 372 sq. in.
Length- 28.5"
Flying Wt.- 14 oz.
Wing Loading- 5.5 oz./ sq. ft.
Power Loading 67 watts/ lb.
Power- Avionics Gust MN Outrunner w/ Avionics 16 amp ESC w/ BEC, a 9-5 GWS Scimitar prop and a Thunderpower 2100 mah 2 cell Lipoly battery.
Guidance- 3 ch. R/C using 2, sub-micro servos and the Spektrum DX-6 Radio.
Ah yes, Pat Tritle. The most prolific aircraft and boat model designer around!
This bird looks great, as does all of Pat's stuff.

yes indeed, Pat is amazing. I will be building one of these Nieuports this winter and will modify it to add ailerons, all I have to do is build the top wing without dihedral, add the aileron controls and adjust the length of the V-interplane struts

The Nieuport 17 has flown and it is (according to the designer, Pat Tritle,) "the best WW1 biplane, I have flown to date!" According to Pat, it is very honest and does everything perfectly. He has many flights on the model now and just loves to do touch and goes with it!
Here a photo!

PS: the model is designed around the Avionics Gust-MN 1380KV motor and the Captian 16 ESC from the same company. It is fed by a 2100 mAh 2S Lipo pack and turns a GWS 9x5 prop

I just received a kit from Pat Tritle of the laser cut parts for the N-17! Very impressive work and all you have to do is add the stick and sheet stock as called out on his Bill of Materials.

I'm green with envy. Envy's not even a strong enough word for it. I'm sure there's a line a mile long with people waiting for this kit - I'll put myself in it too. Keep us posted!
With anticipation,

do a search for Pat's Custom Models, he sells short kits for the plans published in Backyard Flyer. Also there is a N-17 available as an ARF from Powerlinehobbies.com
good luck
