Well Novak says that the motor can handle about 16 volts and they intended it to be used in monster trucks that usualy had 2 motors. What im thinking is strapping in the motor to a touring car with 14.4v lipos or about 12-14 nimh cells and seeing how fast its going to be.

Do you guys have any experience with this motor and know if it will fit most 1/10 scale touring cars and also if it will fit into a b4?

I put an HV4400 in my Rustler. The motor tends to hang out past the "motor guard" piece. It'll make your B4 more tail heavy and will be overpowering. I tried putting the motor in my TT-01; won't fit, but I think for other touring cars, it MIGHT fit ok (someone has an HV4.5 in their TC3 I think).

There's other, smaller motors that are more powerful than the HV motors though, and just plain better options for such a platform.

which motors are more powerful than the HV motors. I was thinking about the HV because they can handle up to 14 cells and neither the velocity nor the lrp ones can handle that. What motors are you speaking of and what ESC can I use to power them?

i belive the velocities will handle it, just not with the gtb package....i could be wrong, but the esc you would probably use would be the novak super duty, or one of their other high vlt. esc's

The super duty isnt a brushless esc

......oh yeah!!!! lol sorry.....i meant to say the HV maxx esc....durrrr on my part

I dont think the velociti motors can handle it because I read somewhere about the rotor grenading if too much voltage. Also on their site it says input voltage is 4-6 cells. Maybe ill just get the mamba cause it can handle up to 12 cells.

The Novak SS5800 has survived 12 cells before. Electric Thunder or someone did it. Maybe the Velocitis could too. But anyways, you should probably just get the Mamba Max 5700 system or something. That will be ballistic on 12 cells and is actually meant to take that kind of voltage.

When I say "other motors" I mean A) sensorless motors like the feigaos, CM36, lehner, etc., which require a sensorless controller like the mamba max, and B) the SS4300, SS13.5, and the Crawler motor all will handle the voltage as well. Put a sintered rotor in them, run them on 12 cells, and they'll be quite powerful.

(Yes, I put my 5800 on 12 cells with a stock rotor...no it didn't grenade...yes it got hot....yes it was hella fast):D

Forgot to mention...Novak themselves at the World's Fastest RC Car Competition ran a 4.5R (with a sintered rotor I think) on 12 cells in something and it held up (but the ESC thermaled on the return run, and I can only imagine how hot the motor was).

You can kiss your warranty good bye when you run these motors on more than 6-7 cells though. :D

Thats one thing I have always wondered. The NOVAK folks ran a 4.5 sintered motor, but what ESC did they use on all of those cells?

HV maxx I believe (hence, that's why it thermaled).

yeah man in all the tests i've run, my velociti 4.5r (3.5r rotor :D) holds up just fine on more then 6cells, but they do say that the warrenty is indeed void once you do this....but who cares about warrenties? lol......right?

The HV4.5 in my TC and Two Packs (they were 2S lipo) ran 75+ for "Several" passes.

We ran the same HV Maxx ESC with the Velociti 4.5, it made 1.75 passes. I killed the ESC about 3/4 down the return run. I think it was "way" overgeared. It did 105 then 98.

I only got "one run" with that setup due to time constraints, Next year I'm going back prepared with LOTS more cars, and LOTS more gears, and most importantly lots more prep time......

...are the numbers you mentioned temperatures?

I believe the numbers are in MPH?

I was using the 4.5HV in my RS4 Rally with a 14.4 lipo..
The HV is 750 watts at 4,800rpm major torq. So you can gear it up to the nuts.
I was using 87 spur and a 32 pin.
I'll have to double check the gears to be sure. I havn't drove it in a long time.
I've been using the HV in the E-savage....
it's way faster than the 3.5R and 4.5R novak brushless system in the RS4 rally.

I ran into this nice little motor the other day looking for a higher voltage motor to run with the mamba max controller.
