Well I have kicked off the BlackJack project. I received it yesterday. With in an hour I had the engine fuel tank and radio all pulled. I am off to home depot tomorrow to get some aluminum to fabricate a motor mount. I will be using the SV27 brushless system I bought from OffShore. I am going to use the stock driveline for now. Striped of the nitro system the hull was way lighter than expected. About a pound. The rest of the crapy stickers come off tonight. I will post pictures as the new power system is installed. That won't be untill next week. This will be the second brushless BlackJack that I know of. Steve @ Offshore has finished his allready. I await his test run results. I have a feeling it is going to be quite fast. I plan on Lipo power but for now all I have for testing are my 3500mah Nihm sport packs.

A customer told me that the u-joints are breaking when taking hard turns at full speed. So take it easy.

What are you going to try for props? I'm thinking x637 or so.

PS: I'm highly jealous that you get to run yours before me!
Good luck!!

Thanks for the heads up on the U joints. I am going to start with the stock prop. I have 3 or 4 of the carbon props I got from you. I will start @ the smallest and work up. I think the 40mm will be the first. I am going to dig in hard monday night. With any luck I will be on the water thursday afternoon. I will take the camcorder. I wont be able to rip the video right away because I toasted the power supply on the desktop. After all the talk from the guys @ work about how they can build me a sweet motor mount, I take it in and I get. Oh that aluminums to thin. We can't work with it. Then they suggested what you did.....lol Well I am going out in the am for some aluminum stock. I will keep you posted.

BTW if I have to much trouble with the universals I will do away with the whole works. Won't take much to mount a bracket, strut and rudder on her. Im betting a 150 cable with a 3/16th stub will work fine in that tube. I think the turn fins can be shortend also.

Give it a try with and without tabs.

I will as soon as I see how the outdrive holds up. I won't have it breaking during heats, not an option. I will run 3 sets of packs in a row and won't spare the ponys. Trail by fire I say.

South J, how heavy was the BJ hull compared to the SV hull?
I'm tellin you, you two guy got me glued to this thread. I can't wait to see the results..

I am not sure how heavy a bare SV hull is?? I know it took 4 trys to even get the Bj hull to register on my wifes digital scale. I was really suprised how much the removal of the nitro engine, exhaust, mounts ect lightend it up. I was suposed to dig in to it tonight but I burned up my desktop pc and have to rebuild it. I am hoping to get 2 or 3 hours tomorrow night. If all goes well I should have it in the water saturday.

I dought it. I plan on either puttin on the drill press or replacing from the strut back with 4mm carbon fiber. I will weigh it when it arives.

Just an update for those of you interested. I received the strut and rudder system. They are more refined than pictured. They are plenty light and need no mods. I have also changed the power system to an LSO setup. I will be using the 700sc and the 90 amp Victory esc. The hull is stripped down to nothing and I am reinforcing the tunnel with some glass and carbon fiber to mount that big old motor on. My dremmel took a crap and has held me up. A trip to Lowes with some gift cards left under the tree by that fat jolly bastage who ate my cookies will solve that issue. I plan on hiting it hard tomorrow morning and night. I will have some pictures posted New Years day.

The latest on the project is that I have bought a 12x24 sheet of carbon fiber for reinforcment of the tunnel. I am taking off work this comming week to knock this project out. Pictures will be posted every day starting sunday night.

C'mon now it's SUNDAY NIGHT, where are the pics! :D Are you refering to the motor when you say, "I will be using the 700sc "? I thought you were using the sv motor? Lets see some pics and numbers from your first run!!

I'm workin on it. Not much to show @ the moment. Just cleaning up the hull. Radio box is out. Waiting on the cf sheet to be delivered. Once I get that it won't be long.

Well since I am still waiting on the Cf to be delivered I didn,t get around to much tonight. I did have some scrap on hand to fix an issue. The blind nuts stripped when I was uninstalling the out drive system. I am going to through bolt the inline strut and rudder system. I figured some 2mm carbon fiber would reinforce the aera nice. I used 2 ton Devcon to bond it. With any luck the Cf will come in the mail tomorrow and I can get the drive line started. Lets see if it can sit there all night with out the cat knocking it over.

I buy my Cf from an Ebay vendor. Composit Envisions. It starts @ 50.00 a sheet for 12x24. Heres the link. http://stores.ebay.com/Composite-Envisions_W0QQsspagenameZL2QQtZkm

I got some work done here. I am going to through bolt the strut and rudder system so I reinforced it with CF. Since my order of CF is late I ued 2.5mm lexan to reinforce the tunnel. I then used devcon secure the DR motor mount. I also extended the stuffing tube 2 inches for alinment.I added a bulkhead fitting and a CF plate to cover the exhaust and to serve as a mount for the antenna.

Why not just get some carbon fabric and reinforce it yourself? That will add more strength and bond better with the hull than precured plate CF will. It would probably be cheaper too.

Oh - and is this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CARBON-FIBER-SHEET-PLAIN-WEAVE-backed-with-fiberglass_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6763QQihZ008 QQitemZ180009329830) the carbon sheet you're buying? If so, that isn't really getting the benefits of carbon that much, as it is almost entirely fiberglass. If you want some pure carbon, I can make you a small sheet (up to 8" by 10") pretty easily that will show how strong the real stuff is. Heck - I even have a bit of spare carbon/kevlar hybrid, which is ridiculously strong, and looks really cool too. 6 layers of it makes a sheet about 0.08" (2mm) thick, and I literally cannot bend the sheet of it more than a tiny bit with all my strength. It is absolutely nuts. If you want a small sheet (as I said, up to about 8 by 10 inches) of either pure carbon or CF/kevlar, let me know and I'll be glad to make you a piece in whatever thickness you want (within reason of course - I only have a little of the CF/kevlar, enough for about a 2.5mm sheet or less, though I have yards upon yards of the plain carbon fabric). I also have S-2 fiberglass (structural grade, much higher quality than what you normally see in hulls) and pure kevlar, which has some flex but is almost impossible to break, unlike carbon which is stiffer but more brittle. Here (http://us.a2.yahoofs.com/groups/g_16352430/ff21/__sr_/552b.jpg?grQO3pFBTa4Px6cu) is a pic of the hybrid fabric to show what it looks like (it is REALLY awesome).

Well I didn't get as much as I wanted done today. But more that I thought.First I ripped out the cross braces that blocked battery ajustment. Now the packs will slide under the radio tray.Hence a low CG. I installed the water pickup through the bottem of the boat last night. I got the radio tray fitted drilled and installed( oh and fabricated). I snaked the esc leads under the tray and out into the motor compartment. The esc signal lead runs under and up in the back right cornner. The power switch is burried under the tray also. If you look hard the plunger is visable next to the esc. The RX pack is all the way up front where the fuel tank used to be. I'll run that wire down the stringer and use an extention to get it over to the switch wire. Witch I cut a notch in the right stringer to get the switch wire out. My efforts to bury wires and keep her looking clean seem to be going ok so far. I had a kind of revlation last night. I noticed that since I bent the DR mount foward I can now fit the OSE water jacket around the motor. Bought the fans for nothing.(storty of my life) I may still run one on the shaft end of the can for over kill. Last but not least I laminated the transom. PAIN IN THE ARSE. I HATE cutting this infernal crap. But I insist on using it. I think it came out ok. Its tuff work getting stuff like this exact. I try my best. It still needs to be cleaned up. I took the picture about 15 minutes after I mixed the Devcon so It's all still wet and will have to be sanded a tad. Thats all for tonight. The inlaws are comming over tonight and the house looks like a nutron bomb detonated in here(well in the dinning room any way ). Night

Interesting use of carbon plate there. Is that pure carbon, or a carbon/fiberglass combination?

SouthJersey-FE

It's glass reinforced. There where so many holes in the transom this is the best option. The boat is done now. Final build pics are on OffShoreElectrics forum.

Well I have since gone brushless. I am 70% done. The build is posted in the OSE forum under BlackJack 2.0
