Ok, im a nitro guy looking for some help on my first good electric car. I have a z-10 i am going to make a rally car. I have a trinity(?) ex-spec motor and a crappy old battery pack along with a Monster FET esc that should handle as low as 14t motors so i am told.... With all that in the car along with 85/21 gearing it seemed like the car is a little slow. I am sure the esc is set right and the drive train is smooth. I dropped the spur gear to something with a few less teath and it seemed to help a little. My question is, does it sound like the car is under-geared, or is my gear old and slow? I do have a 16t speed gems ruby... MMmmmm Modified.... how bad would my run times suffer with that thing? Ill come tune your nitro engine for free if you can give me the right advice! well... mabye.. :)

your run times will sufer some but not that much just the mod will need more maitance than any old stocker

To me it just sounds a little undergeared, but the only way to really tell, is, is the car an absolute rocket out of the hole? Meaning, does it have monster accelaration? If it does, that could be your undergeared, it would help if i knew the drivetrain ratio, that would help a lot. But, as you said, bolting in a modified will get you going faster, either way. Your motor may need some maintenance, that is all, maybe the Comm Trued(not sure it has a removable endbell...) so if you can't do that, then just replace the brushes with some high quality ones, you said the motor is old, and that could very well be the problem.

post again if you need any more help.

A "crappy old battery pack" will limit you significantly too if it's not in very good shape and a low mah rating. If you through in a 2400 or 3000 or something that would deffinately boost your power.

I have a z-10 as well i run a D4 6 turn in it and it hauls runs with my rc10gt very well and are you running the z-10 4-whell drive?? i took off the 4-wheel drive belt and lost alot of power so make sure ur running the 4-wheel drive belt all i could recremend doing id buying a way faster motor in order to do that with ur ESC you might look into a nice novak ECs or something well know and good

Thank you all for your responses! I wish i could tell you the final drive, but i picked up the car used, so i didnt get a manual. Anyone who owns a z-10 know? Ill get a bigger pinion today and see what happens. If that doesnt seem to do anything ill drop in the speed gems :) .

xxxer - The car is really fast out of the hole... It does seem to wind up really high too.... Im not used to the quiet of an electric motor, so its hard for me to really tell! :)

Hummmm.... - What kind of run times do you get with your d4? With what battery pack are you gettting that time? I think im going to pick up one or two new cheaper packs... 1700, 1900, or 2000mah... Ill see what i can pick up for around 25-35 bucks.

MIGHTY- my car huals my pack is a trinity 2000, run a 20 pinion and like maybe a 80-82 spur with a fast motor (10 or less turns) is good for the z-10 good luck report back soon

2000 pack huh? I think i am going to pick two of them up sometime here in the near future.
I picked up a 24t pinion and a 81t spur to try with my stocker.... If that doesnt do it ill drop the ruby in and put the 21t pinion back in... Ill let you know how it goes!
