View Full Version : Do I need to back up Tamiya Black spray paint with another color?
Hey, I am about to paint a body with Tamya Black spray paint. I was wondering if I need to back it with another color? If so what would work? I want it to have a really dark black look. Thanks Ethan

You don't have to, but it gives your bodies a nice professional look when you back the whole thing in white.

The Tamiya Black is a very dense black so there is no need to back it with anything. I have used the same colour on a Geddy 350Z and it looked fine. One thing you can do to test the density of a colour once applied is hold it upto a light or other strong light source. If you can see light through the paint easily, then just apply another coat if it is a dark colour and back with a darker colour if it is a lighter colour. It all depends on the type of finish you are looking for. You can't get any darker than black anyway if you see what I mean. The Tamiya Black goes on very well anyway. If in doubt you can always test it on one of the Lexan pieces you cut from the shell when cutting out. If you look on the products site, a lot of the time they state what you should back the colour with anyway and Tamiya is no exception. Hope this helps.
