From Kyosho:
Monday, Jan. 8th, 2006 - Kyosho announces a new race-developed, high-grade (HG) air filter set. Standard equipment in the new 777 WC Edition buggy, the HG air filter features a new, high-density foam element and pre-filter. The high-density foam captures the smallest particles to keep your engine in top condition, yet it allows plenty of airflow so the engine can produce maximum power. The angular cut of the foam pre-filter creates more surface area, which means the engine will breathe well even when other filters begin to compromise performance.

A molded rubber elbow, filter housing and durable metal inner cage are included. The end of the filter housing even features a mounting lug, so the assembled filter is better supported, which keeps it firmly attached to the engine where it belongs.

This new filter is designed for use with most popular nitro vehicles, including 1:8 buggies, truggies and monster trucks that use .21 and larger engines.

IF345 - High-Grade (HG) Air Filter Set - $15.99
IF345-1 - High-Grade (HG) Air Filter foam elements (2 sets) - $15.99

Would that be the complete RB filter that retails for $32.50 or the replacement elements that retail for $20?

Yes, there are more replacement foams for the extra 5 bucks, but the complete filter assembly is more than double the price of the Kyosho part. I'm not here to speak poorly of the RB item, but to set the record straight on the price - the Kyosho filter is HALF the price, not 4x. You missed by about 800%. ;)

Maybe it's the same RB air filter that has to be epoxied together to keep from dusting engines out?

no the rb replacement filters fit my xray filter in my st-r so i didnt pay the outrageous price for the filter assembly. I got 10 inners and outers for $18.00 i.e. 5x more for $2 more. so actually 10 would cost $80 (unless i'm reading this press release wrong?) and 80/18 is actually more than 4 but i'll let ya slide ;)

You can only go by retail price or sale price - comparing a discounted sale price to Kyosho retail price isn't exactly a fair comparison. If the retail for 5 RB filters is $20 and the sale price is only $8, then wouldn't it be fair to apply a similar discount to the Kyosho filters? In that case, the kyosho filters would be $6.40 for two. Still more expensive but not by the margin you suggest. You also can't assume that foam is foam and that you get exactly the same thing for the money. In the end, everyone is free to choose whatever filter they want. If you're happy with the RB filter, then stick with it. This thread is simply to let people know that Kyosho has a new filter available. ;)

and that its different from the RB filters, right? These Kyosho filters have al larger metal inner cage, allowing more airflow (in theory). RB replacement filters don't fit on the kyosho metal inner cage. So for my replacement filters on my mp777 wce i have to buy the kyosho's (or a complete new RB set :teacher: )

i'm not bashing these or kyosho (like i stated i own an st-r and am very happy with its winning performance) but to me these still seem a bit overpriced. the rb's retail for approx. $25/10 filters so the kyosho's are still quite a bit more and the quality of the rb's are second to none. i'll admit that the design of the kyosho filter is superior but personally i chose not to use the one in my kit BECAUSE of the price of replacement filters.
