This is my first forray into the super class. I just built this today. I had some of the parts already but I was waiting for the rest of them to arrive today. Im running 45 turn lathe motors, Super Rooster ESC, Hitec 645MG servos, Axial beadlocks w/ Moabs w/ no foams, RC Guy servo mount and steering kit, Bender 12 to 17mm adaptors, and its running off a DX6. It has a 17 inch wheelbase and 5 1/2" of center clearance.
I just got the radio today and im impressed. There seems to be alot it can do. Im not used to the throttle stick "ratcheting" yet but overtime I will get used to it. I know there is a way to get rid of that but i dont mind it. I have it set up so I can control front and rear steering independently and then with a flick of a switch they work together :D I plan on adding rear dig to it sometime also. I messed with it for a few minutes with an almost dead battery and it was pretty cool. I should have some video up soon.

I got my pimp cane at rccrawler.com. There's a guy on there who makes the canes.

I got it from a guy on RC Crawler that saw my wanted add. Somebody on that website makes them....cant remember his name, but he is in the vendor section :)

what kind of prices should i be ready to pay.

The way you see it in the pic RTR was around $800, but I bought the axles, tires, and chassis used so that saved a few bucks too. My other two rigs were about half of that each..but that includes no radio/reciver/servo.

whats so special about them? They look very very simple.

whats so special about them? They look very very simple.I know nothing about them other than what I have rean just now on this thread, but I would say the fact that they are custom made makes them so expensive. Supply+Demand=Price ;)

Well guys the chassis itself isnt expensive. Its around $40-50. He can cut it any length you need. On the other hand you can just my c channel at the store cut it to your length and drill a few holes for the bolts. It was easier for me to buy it from him as I dont have the right tools to cut through metal and drill holes. Plus his new ones come with the angled brackets that mount to the axles rubber coated instead of how you see them there.
I will be adding weight to it today and putting rear DIG in. For those that dont know rear DIG is when you put a 2 position switch(up is on and down is off) in between one of the wires on the rear motor. So when the switch is down the rear motor doesnt receive power and it is essantially giving all the power to the front, which helps in steep climbs. While up it acts like it would normally. I also plan on adding front DIG to it also. :D This rig should be very sweet when its done. I just hope it all works out.

James, the 'crawling' bug has hit you hard!
jamesbernatchez
01-12-2007, 09:13 AM
Yep it has...theres something fun about trying to climb stuff that you shouldnt be able to climb :D Just hanging with a groub of guys and crawling is a bunch of fun.
I should clarify that im actually doing FRONT dig...rear dig is when you lock up the front axle. I had it backwards, LOL.
Do you got any info on the bender wheel adapters ( or link) ?, the closest I could find was 12mm to 14mm from New Era and then spacers from GS to get to 17mm which seemed like a PITA so I never did it, but would still like to.
Thanks

Nice crawler. I got my sw2 crawler a couple days ago and I will make a build thread if i get enough people that want me to. And it depends on if i can figure out how to downsize pictures. If you know how to downsize pictures could you tell me and if you want me to post a thread i will.

well if you upload the pictures into photobucket.com then they will automatically resize them to 800x600 which is perfect...
and yeah id like to see a crawler build.

if running XP, go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
and on your right side, scroll down to "image resizer". Install that, and when you right click on your image, you will see " re-size image"...allowing you to choose 4 different sizes. I typically click on "medium". upload THOSE photos to photobucket, or simply from here...sizing will be spot-on, and it will normally compress a 1+ meg file down to about 80 kb.
EVERY Slidewayz photo was done using this procedure
( oh yeah.James, nice rigs. If i had your money, i would burn mine.)

open your photobucket.....look at the bottom of the pic, yo uwill see 3 "bars" top one is URL code, 2nd one down is HTML code, bottom is image code. Click on image code bar, it will briefly light up yellow, saying "copied"...paste it into your message box here...all done

Nope..no 2.2 beadlocks from axial. But a few companies make them RC4WD makes them(check out my TLT rig...they are on that) and another vendor on RC Crawler makes delrin ones too.
BTW...i just picked up a MLST(again) to bash with :D

I have a Pimp too. Its has a 17 inch wheel base, I have seen a few questions in the above post that have went unanswered so I will give you some info on the chassis.
Its a very simple torsion design thats requires no shocks. When you first get it will give you about 70 degrees of articulation but after a few runs it will break in and give you 90 + degrees. I have easily competed against Stick chassis and beat them so they can be compared with the Stick performance fo alot less. The best way to mount the electronics is on the axles and try to keep them from the chassis because it will effect your flex.
Also keep in mind that the shorter the pimp cane the less flex you will have at the beginning. I have seen many 2.2 rigs with a 12 inch wheel base and their owners complained of the lack of flex but they too will break in and flex 90 + degrees it just takes alot longer.
The chassis gives you great break over angles and offers a low budget way to compete in the super class without breaking your wallet. Not bad for 45 dollars and you can ask the owner to polish the chassis and most of the time he will do it for free, he is great to do business with. Try it and become a torsion believer!

You may think you can just go down to your local Hardware store to get the C-Channel But you can't. It is special ordered online. I should know.

No!!! Your a liar :D
J/K, your right. I didnt see anything except L angle aluminum. I think i need a longer chassis though, my wheelbase is right around 17" and I think if it was another 1" or 2 longer that would help a great deal. I might order another backbone sooner or later.

Go ahead and order from there. There are over 100 different harness and thickness's of Aluminum. Research and testing was done to find the best one that worked. If you think you can get the right one the first time. It wouldn't be a bad idea. But I can tell ya now. Many have tried to cpoy it and no one has had one last no where near as long as mine. There's a New Copy called Ram Rod. He as built 6 total and is selling them for 80 bucks. But from what I have heard 4 out of the 6 are already Cracked.
Also I have ordered from mcmasters before. They Rape you on Shipping charges. I'm never ordering from the again. :teacher:

Sorry...I didn't know you were the guy who sold the cane.I was simply letting people know that there was more than just "L" angle available.
Nice concept btw....that thing flexes more than my Liberty :D

Thats cool. I just hate poeple being getting the wrong idea. I do sell them. I didn't always. The guy who came up with the idea didn't have time to keep making them. And I took a Chance. I myself never had till I owned the rights for them. My buddy had a 2.2 Pimp Cane and it was freakin sweet. He was killing the competetions with it. So I had to buy the rights for it once I heard that. But I make them with the Flipped rear axle. That idea came from my buddy how has been running that same chassis for sometime. So it wasn't just a thought. It was field tested and proven. I'm worken on a Shock for the back bone. Where you can limit the amount of flex. But the stuff I want to use is hard to get ahold of. It's called Master-Flex or Pro-Flex...They use it in prosthics joints and stuff.
