Anybody done this?? Since I converted my LST to brushless power I've been eyeing other vehicles I have at hand for possible conversion.I already have a Neo powered TC3 but thought a 2 speed version using the nitro clutch bell and pinions might be fun to play with as well... :D
I think I could use the nitro clutch bell and pinions with a large electric pinion JB welded in place ala Fine Designs kits...cobble up a motor mount ..relocate the receiver box to make room for lipos....mount the ESC and UBEC where the fuel tank sits now....dunno..waddya think ??

The World's Fastest (official) RC Car is an electrified Nitro TC3, it hit something like 130mph. I would bet it was a single speed, though. If it were me, I too would make it a single speed, and then just gear up for speed runs.

indeed it was...as for gearing to give you an idea...he switched the position of pinion ans spur...not exactly but size wise he had one HAUGE spur!

From my monkeying around, I've found that a two speed electic is useless. It doesn't get you anything. Electrics are capable of such torque, that the first gear isn't needed. Get rid of first, and stick with second. You could make your life easier and just get a tc3 electric.

I already have a Neo powered tc3 that goes pretty good.I was just trying to justify converting my NTC3 over to brushless and keeping the 2 speed would make it unique relative to the Neo powered TC3..
thanks

Do the 2 speed and overgear it.
Not only will drivetrain be more durable than a tc3, but it'll be a little more of a challenge fitting everthing in there.

I'm not sure if I would recommend slapping a nitro clutchbell onto a pinion with JB weld. Anything directly hooked to a motor has to be precisely balanced and l'ets just say that JB welding is far from an exact theory as far as weight repartition goes

just get a MOD1 pinion from Starluck or some place... much easier.

I have a couple mod 1 pinions on the way for my cen matrix conversion...the only problem with just a single pinion in the NTC3 is the loss of the 2 speed. For the NTC3 conversion If I can find a mod1 pinion that fits snug in the clutchbell I think balance will be less of a concern as long as I get the jb weld/high temp epoxy in with no voids....

Send it to me, I'll make an arbor for the 2 speed clutchbell.
Also, what Matrix are you converting, buggy or truggy?

Thanks for the offer,I'll keep you in mind if I get stuck.
I'm going to try and convert the MAtrix Buggy since I found a roller with body and wheels pretty cheap on ebay.My main concerns right now judging by the pictures I've found are the brake assemblies which might be in the way of the motor can. If they conflict way I may use a clutchbell with mod1 pinion to get the motor back far enough to clear the brake asembly...but I'm just postulating as the parts aren't even at hand yet
Thanks again

Mod 1 pinions won't work, that's why I used the stock clutchbell with an arbor inside. I didn't use JB Weld either. I'll post some pics in later in the morning.

Here's my setup: Stock 13t cb, aluminum arbor ( turned it .001 under the cb diameter) , and it has far less runout than a cb on a nitro engine. If I remember correctly, it's a 1/4 -28 set screw holding it on to the 5mm shaft, it's not going anywhere! The mod 1 pinion I bought wasn't long enough to clear the brake rotors.
