Tamiya America says the TNX 5.2R is almost ready to go, and they've already clocked a production-spec truck at 55mph+ ! No official PR yet, but Tamiya did shoot us some bullet points:

1. Newly designed and narrower Pre-painted polycarbonate body with new color and sticker scheme.
2. New metal spur gear that replaces plastic version from original TNX.
3. New .32 size engine with rear exhaust, and oversize heat sink head.
4. Slide valve carburetor.
5. New metal dog bones. (Optional MIP CVD's already available from MIP and Tamiya!!!!)
6. David Jun designed pillow ball suspension comes standard (previously a option part for the original TNX)
7. New large capacity plastic, threaded shock body dampers.
8. New Tamiya dish wheels with newly designed pin spike tires. Dish wheels come pre drilled for easy access to pillow ball suspension.
9. New narrower blue anodized main frame chassis.
10. Receiver battery compartment moved to front of chassis for improved weight distribution.
11. New two channel receiver which incorporates fail safe system.
12. Standard two channel 27 MHz radio included.
13. Tamiya Handy Starter comes standard to easy start the Tamiya engine.

dont know much people with TNXs.

Me neither, but I got me one last spring, and its probally the most durable truck I've owned, and thats a bunch! The .18 version is super fast, and tough, except the shocks. This one looks even meaner!

if you look on tamiyas website it says speed of over 60mph already, and on tamiyatrucks. the Admin of the site has radared his 5.2r at 63mph prty sweet havent seen to many monster trucks hit that speed stock.

Tnx is very durable truck, think ive broken an A-arm for it and ive owned it for maybe over a year

I'm not liking the 14mm wheels...
Is the spur gear mesh adjustable now?

JMO but i'm not sure if I like it...

Would be nice if they made a kit :)

...yes a kit would be nice...but in todays world that is a pipe dream ;)

TNX is a great truck, don't be scared to buy it because of lack of parts support. You will be satisfied.

And if they really do claim 60+ mph, I don't think you need more convincing.

Look into gpm gear cases and nova diff cups, and upgrade the rod ends as soon as you can, you will run it and run it and run it and nothing will go wrong

I was going to get this truck when it came out, but I will have to wait for next years rc budget... I have the GST 7.7 coming instead. ;)

And I agree ministerOFfire we do need more TRUE monster trucks :D

it's about time Tamiya put steel dogbones, spur gear, and black plastic in the TNX, I can't wait to put these on my TNX.

Now if they could just improve that primer, it would be perfect.

For me the TNX truck its an awesome racer ... last stage of the mexican nats, surrounded by 3.3 revos (some of them highly modified and with powerfull .23 rb engines) and i managed to make the TQ with my TNX PRO + OS .18TZ engine and buggy pipe, im really really happy with this truck, too sad that proline discontinued the powertroke shocks, here you can see a couple of pics of my TNX during the race :

Too bad my receiver went crazy during the a-main and i lost control of the truck ...

So far the only mods i did to my TNX since december 2005 when i received it are :

- Wing Kit.
- Put the battery on the rear, just on the original spot of the fuel tank.
- Changed the original tank for a MGT one, and installed on the front of the truck.
- Used a rdlogics right side header on my OS .18TZ-X engine, with a thunder tiger 3 chamber short buggy pipe.

I was thinking on getting some other truck to race, but you know, the TNX REALLY DO ITS JOB ON THE TRACK ... i was amazed how fast it was v/s other monsters wth bigger/powersul engines and all ...

Does anyone know what I need to install a big block engine onto my TNX?

Thai

Must be a common factory oversight... but make sure to Loctite all of the 5x5mm grub screws on your Differential Joint Cup. I know several people that's lost them because they've come loose.

Also, the fuel hose that comes out of the pipe to the top of the fuel tank, either reroute it, or zip-tie it away from the flywheel. They end up touching and the flywheel will cut it.

Why is the TNX or Tamiya products so not popular here in the US?

People don't know I guess. Mine kicks ass. They win lots of races and have gotten lots of awards. So yeah, not sure.

Hi. I bought my TNX 5.2R recently and I love it. Here are some videos I made:

My stock truck body is pretty beat up now from all the flips, backflips and somersaults when trying to jump over humps, so I have installed a new body on it, I now call it my WRX 5.2R !!! :D

Heres my tnx. Gonna be racing it this year locally, My goal is to make it outperform a modded revo but cost significantly less. At the moment it handles really well and with the .32 its got a pretty decent mill in it. The standard body is gonna be replaced with a PL crowd pleaser and the wing is gonna be changed to a PL high downforce one in the near future.

I just fixed one of these for a buddy. Someone says 60mph??? Not even close, at least not with stock gearing. 60mph is wicked fast for a monster truck or any truck. With proper gearing and tires, you might make it, but 60 is lightning fast...........

What's with the 14mm hex wheel nuts? They made a LOT of nice upgrades to this truck and they leave the 14mm hexes in place? Massive power and 14mm hexes = lots of stripped wheels, LOL.

Can this be upgraded to 8mm stub axles?

Hi, did those axial rims come with the 17mm adaptors? If so do they fit and work ok?

dallasv8

they did come with the adapters but the adapters are plastic and when tightened rub on the knuckles.i will get a set of alloy ones one day to try out.

as for now, i bought a second tnx that had a few sets of 23mm wheels so i run them mainly.i have also added alloy front and rear bulkhead braces as well as MIP CVD's and a jammin JP-3 pipe.i need to get a new pic with the new bits added :)
