I use a duratrax flashpoint. Not sure how accurate it is, but it gives me at least a good estimate. Not too expensive either, so that's my vote.:)

that's exactly what i was planning on getting. so quick run down, 120 degrees for the ib4200's and 160-175 degrees for the novak 3.5r?

Ditto to ElectricThunder's post. I use the 77E setting for the MM anodized can.

I also use the Flashpoint. Works well enough for me :).

Me too!:D
Needler- My IBs usually come off at around 110 from a full 20 minute (or around there; probably more like 15-17 minutes as I still have to time it) run with a MM5700, so I would assume the 3.5R is more amp hungry, so I'd say 120 is reasonable. You can probably gear the 3.5R to run around 150 degrees though. I guess it depends on how long the run is though (the longer the run, the hotter the motor's going to get in my experiences). I'd try to stick to the 160 degree rule set out by Novak max if you can.:)
Have you guys seen this one at harbor freight http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=93983 . It looks exactly the same as the duratrax flashpoint but costs much less.

Yes... I have both the Duratrax and the HF one. They have the exact same case, but they are a little different. I got mine for $8 at HF.
The two I have give almost the exact same readings. So if you have a HF nearby, you might want to check it out.

Don't I feel ripped off... lol! Oh well, I think I ordered my flashpoint lumped in with one big order from tower, so it balances out with one of those savings codes... Meh. Good link though, thanks! (I was thinking about getting a scroll saw from HF... I feel like makin' something!)

I have a raytec temp gun I bought about 3 yrs ago. When Flashpoint came out I bought one of thise since its so much smaller and easier to carry. Comparing the temps from the two devices - Flashpoint is usually within 1 to 3F as long as the surface has a flat finish, like a raw cast type finish. If its a polished shiny and smooth surface, the Flashpoint will be off. You're supposed to be able to compensate for this by re-setting emmisivity, but I've not had a lot of luck doing that.

I was over at Harbor Freight this morning and they were having a "sidewalk sale". They had a whole batch of these little thermometers for $7.00 each.
I thought I had put this in the Nitro Forum.
